Dog Waste Holders

I'm getting a puppy this summer. I know there are waste bag holders but what do you all do with the bagged waste if there's no nearby bin, is there such a thing as a waste holder for collected waste until you can get to a bin? Or do you attach the filled waste bag dangling to the lead with a metal clip thingy?

Also, do you usually bring wipes with you as well in case of accidental touching of waste? If so where do you store those? I imagine it would be convenient to have all these things in one small bag to bring - waste bad dispenser, used waste bag holder, wipes etc. I am looking at different things to buy but not sure what to go for. Thanks in advance!

I don't bother with wipes - very, very rarely is that an issue.

You can get bags for the full poo bags that go on your belt, but I think I'd find that too much of a hassle.

I'm usually near a bin if I'm not in the woods, and if I'm in the woods, I dig a hole with my boot and bury it. If they go in fields with stock, or where sheep are ever grazed, then I pick it up to avoid parasite transfer from dogs to stock (can be dangerous to the livestock).

Congrats on your new puppy. I have a poop bag dispenser attached to lead. I use to carry a small packets of wet wipes when mine was a puppy but now his poops are firm and easy to pick up, so don’t bother. And if walking somewhere without bins, I take an empty plastic bread bag, drop the poo bag into that and attach to my day rucksack.

Always have empty poo bags in my pockets and carry until I reach a bin or home.
(Last week I realised I was no longer carrying a filled poo bag - first time ever. Felt really bad, but at the end of an hour walk and didn't go back and look for it.)

I hate carrying bags of poo and I can't be faffed with gadgets either. I bought a second hand cross body bag off shpock, its a fat face one that wipes clean. I use that as my designated dog walking bag. Its got inside pockets for empty poo bags, treats, small pack of wipes, hand gel and car keys. Its also got a large front zip pocket, I keep a thick zip lock bag in there I store the bags with poo in inside until I can find a bin. I often walk along the canal and there's no bins at all so I have to take them home, it keeps the smell locked in.

Thanks for your replies, they are all really helpful! I like the idea of a little cross-body bag with a place to store everything, at least to start with, and then as I get more used to it over time I'll probably be winging it with just a little roll of bags in my pocket! Smile

I have a Dicky bag (or two!) they are great. The issue with a cross body bag is it becomes a place for treats and your phone/keys. You then don’t want to fill it with a poo filled plastic bag!

I have a rubbery dog poo bag holder on my lead. You push the end of the bag through the slot and it holds onto it until you find a bin or get home. Much better than trying to hold on to multiple bags.

The only time I’ve ever wanted wipes was when I tried to remove a black plastic bag from my dogs mouth which turned out to be a disgusting turd. Luckily I was outside my house so could just bash the door with my foot until DH let me in to wash my hands.

There are probably more bins around than you think - I now have a mental map of all the bins locally and there are loads that I had no idea about until I walked by them.

You pick it up and keep hold of it while you walk to the next poo bin

I found that in the early days when I was trying to manage puppy behaviour at the same time as holding onto a bag of poo could be tricky. Once when my pup got tangled with another dog the poo fell out of my hands and I didn’t realise I was missing something until I got home. It’s much easier now I can hook the bag onto my lead until we get to a bin or get home. And, on the odd occasion that my dog has a dicky tummy, it means I don’t have to carry up to three bags of poo.

I've bought one of these - I clip it to the harness rather than the lead handle though, so the dog can carry its own poo!
