Dog attacked

We were out walking with our dog today, on the pavement. The dog was paying no attention to anything, the cat was in it’s garden with – I assume – it’s owner. As soon as it saw our dog the cat jumped off the wall and attacked her – it wouldn’t stop. Dog was yelping, this thing followed us into the road, and husband had to pick her up as this cat wouldn’t stop. The owner flapped around “don’t do that to the doggie” - as you can imagine it took no notice. This thing wouldn’t give up. Imagine being chased into the road by a cat. It sounds amusing “cat attacks dog” but I can assure you that it wasn’t – and if it has been the other way round the dog would’ve been in serious trouble - is there anything we can do, or- as its a cat - we just have to suck it up

Was your dog injured?

I don't think there's anything that can be done - cats are free roaming.

Sounds scary, not sure what you can do. As you say it might not even be their cat Sad

The difference is that a dog can do far more damage than a cat. There's nothing you can do, cats are free roaming and this particular one may have had a bad experience with dog resulting in it feeling the need to defend itself aggressively. I'd walk a different route if you can.

There is a cat like this a few roads away from me. My previous (large) dog and I were once walking on the pavement past its house. The house has a semicircular path with gates onto pavement at each end. It saw my dog through first gate and bristled, then ran really fast round the path to second gate to ambush poor dog. It was so contorted with rage that its body was sort of bent round and it had to run sideways like a crab. Poor old dog was amazed (she was used to friendly cats) and a bit scared we both had to step into road to get away. A woman parking her car witnessed it all and was equally surprised.

if it has been the other way round the dog would’ve been in serious trouble

This is not (necessarily) true. I've had a dog seriously attacked/almost killed by another. Police involvement and no trouble at all for the other dog or owner other than 'a chat'.
