Right I'm on a mission at the moment to make life a bit easier and I want to know for those of you that have large dogs what do you consider worthwhile purchasing for the car.

We have a Labrador and our car is a large SUV so boot is high up! We tend to go on long muddy walks daily at the moment and due to where we are currently living we have to drive to get there.

Things I'm considering:

Dog ramp (I currently heave him in and out)
One of the those sheets that fold out to cover the back bumper so they don't put muddy paws on the car?
Mud daddy or similar portable shower (for all our muddy boots too)
Doggy towling robe

Also I need to get a boot divider so when we eventually go on long journeys the luggage doesn't roll on the dog.

What is worth it and not worth and what have I not considered?

I personally found almost everything a bit useless. Instead I have a washable microfibre bed in the boot. The microfibre soaks up much of the muck when he gets back in the car.

We use a towling robe and think they are fab, but this goes on when we get back home. I could see how this could be useful post walk, though. Both to help keep you clean if you are heaving the dog up and because wet dogs shake, scattering muddy drops in the car.

I also let the dog jump in and out of the car by himself - and I know not everyone wants to/can do that.

Thank you! I suspected as much but getting wet muddy kids in the car and then I dog I was hoping someone there might be some wonder tools I was missing!

Unfortunately he can't jump in and out anymore so I think the ramp may be a necessity.

We bought the hozelock porta shower and it's brilliant! Much cheaper than the mud daddy. Fill it up before we go out, then wash ddog down at end of the walk.
