Insurance for dachshund and what are their common ailments?

Well pretty much as it says above! I am still (very belatedly) Blush getting around to insure my two adopted little sausages.

I know sausage dogs are more prone for Intervertebral disc disease but do not really want to start googling illnesses too much as I will freak myself out.

is there one insurer that is better than others for sausage dogs and their common ailments?

NO IDEA but we are with Kennel Club and have found them very reliable

And yes my wee fella at 5 did have disc problems with crate rest for 8 weeks and various vet visits ... and likely to reoccur with surgery probably/possibly necessary... but we hope we can avoid that!! Doing all the right things at the mo so fingers crossed

@loveyouradvice oh I do hope the disc problems stay away without the need for surgery.
I will check out Kennel Club. I had not heard of that insurance.
My two little poopers run around and up down stairs with no stopping them so I need to get some gates for them too. I’m petrified they will cause themselves harm.

Yes we used to let ours run everywhere and introduced steps up to sofas far too late - he loved jumping up and down....

Now far better behaved and hope it is enough. One year on

Also wonder when it happened it was just 4 weeks after a mammoth New year walk on a stone beach which really exhausted him ... 3-4 hours though carried at end.... not sure if there was a connection but think there might have been

Just wonder if this was really bad for him... he'd done lots of 3-4 hours on hills or dartmoor but I think a stone beach is a very different thing...

Mine is insured with Bought by Many, up to £15k per ailment and lifetime cover, we’ve not had to claim (thankfully) and she also tears around the house leaping off the sofa despite having a ramp Confused

Oh my two jumps up and down the sofa all the time. Hops down the long staircase between first and second floor. Confused. @loveyouradvice & @Thischarmlessgirl which ramps/steps do you use?

I had one made by a man on Etsy, it’s carpeted and matched our sofa so not too much of a eye sore!

Darn... went to buy another of our most successful one - lightweight foam, dark grey understated fabric, three step at £23 -to find its currently unavailable

Link below but not much help ... we tried a couple of others first - metal steps covered in fabric - one smelt so chemically! Glues, material, whatever but had to go. Other just collapsed

So keen to find more like this as need them for the bed! Three steps relatively unobtrusive with sofas.... and SO portable, could just take up to DD room when home from college - or wherever needed most. Three sets is not enough for our house!
