Dog car crates

Hi all, we are looking for a car crate for our Labrador, and interested to hear people’s experiences/recommendations. Puppay is currently 13 weeks old, so will still grow considerably!

Is it safe to have him in a crate that is large enough for when he’s an adult? Or do you need a small one, and then a large replacement?

What brands do you all recommend? Thanks for any advice!

Following with interest. I bought an expensive fabric one but it is huge and doesn't fit really in the car. We are going to use it as indoor crate!

Our puppy has recently chewed through the mesh and the zips of a fabric one, so we are currently without anything. I think we’ll need to buy a plastic/metal one now...

Largest metal crate in the back of the van. We have a Saint. She will grow massive, up to 75kgs. She is around 20kgs just now. Best going with largest you will need IMO.

We stick with dog bars, but then ours isn’t a chewer.

I got my car cage from Pet World Cages and would highly recommend it and them. petworldcages.com/

I've got a medium estate double cage which fits my huntaway and collie beautifully. It's very sturdy but I can lift it in and out by myself if I have to. It's the perfect slope to maximise space in the car. The company delivered it really quickly and offer free returns if it isn't right.

The only thing I'd say is to buy a better mat than the free one that comes with it - my huntaway chewed through the free mat on the first use 🤦‍♀️

@ruralwanderer thanks, I will have a look now. Also, never heard of a huntaway, had to google!

haha very few people know what he is when they see him. They usually ask if he's a Rottie/Dobie/German Shepherd cross.
