Maggie is OBSESSED with washing machines and tumble dryers. She will stand in front of them when they're on, watching the washing going round. She can't even see anything when the tumble dryers on as it's not a glass door, but she still watches it. When she sees us coming down to the kichen with washing she turns and runs back to he kitchen to watch the machine. She ''helps'' us load and unload them, and can actually close the dryer door for us. When we were on holiday in self catering, she watched the machine there too.

She 'bites' the hot air coming from a hair dryer.

She is totally and absolutely obsessed with playing bubbles. She gets a great exercise routine and will run after them and jump at them. All the kids up our local park know her and love her....when I go up there, there's loads of kids saying ''Mummy, there's Maggie playing bubbles'' and she loves it when kids join in with her.

So what quirks does your dog have that make you laugh and love them?

Mine doesn’t like guests.
She’s very sweet and friendly with them when they are here but the second they go to get up or say something to suggest leaving like ‘right i’d best be going’ or similar she pulls a big grin and trots off happily to the front door then gets quite cross if they don’t immediately start leaving.
She’ll stare at them then the door then them again whining/grumbling, sometimes she’ll even give them a little nose bump to hurry them along 🤣

She won’t use the garden unless we are also using it.

She won’t get up out of bed unless we do too and if me or DH is sick she’ll stay in the room with us literally all day, only leaving if she wants food or the toilet.

Her other little trick is to put her toy on our lap and if we don’t throw it for her she’ll grumble then put on a big fake show of affection and keep escalating and live bombing until we relent

*LOVEbombing

CMOTDibbler · 04/02/2021 20:12

Ddog2 is a bit neurotic. He is currently terrified of the Mastermind music. His very endearing quirk is that given a Jumbone he doesn't eat it, it will get put away safely and then brought out, looked at, tucked up in the sofa throw again and so on for months. On a Sunday he likes to get back into bed with me after his breakfast (actually he'd like to do it everyday, but alas not), and he'll come bounding in joyfully then run off, get jumbone, and tuck it into the bed before settling down.
Both dogs live happily with the cats and chickens, but currently one of the chickens is inside after getting injured and she bullies the dogs off the sofa or dog bed by just getting on it and staring at them. Which is hilarious looking at a big saluki x and doberman x lucher looking in fear at a hen!

Mine break dances when he greets other dogs. Turns his arse to them, drops to the floor and approaches in reverse, finally spinning around and around with one shoulder on the ground, wagging his silly lollipop tail. He gets very muddy.

Is he a spaniel?

Ours lies along the back of the sofa behind our heads and sometimes rests his head on the nearest shoulder to watch the TV.

His absolute favourite food is pizza crusts or the end of a ham and cheese toastie.

He talks back if you speak to him but only if he's in the mood. He will grumble and "talk" in the same tones as you speak to him with. Apparently it's a thing with his breed.

He sits up and watches nature programmes and seems to "know" that they're not "real" but that they're animals. People on TV don't get a glance but polar bears, bears, wolves or big cats are watched intently.

He sleeps at the end of the bed but when the alarm goes off walks up and snuggles up to me resting his head on my chest. This means "take me out".

He doesn't like going to stay anywhere away from home - even with us on holiday or with family and takes quite a few days to get back to normal and stop sulking when we get home.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 04/02/2021 20:48

Her most bizarre one is if you give her something in her bowl that isn’t regular dog food (say some left over chicken from a roast) she will take one piece into another room with a carpet - has to be carpet. Puts it on the carpet and then eats it- then happily go back and eat the rest normally.
I have no idea why. Funny little creatures

An obsession with trying to get into IKEA bags. Will sit on them if unable to get in them. Same with carrier bags left around but has never successfully got into a carrier bag.

Tennis ball obsessed as well. Will find ones left at the park by other dogs, refuse to hand them over and carry them home. When we get to about 30 I take them all back to the park and leave them in a bag hooked over the fence. He has about 50 at the moment though because I don't know that people will want to handle them during Covid.

Our Lab always barks at elderly people 🤦🏼‍♀️ or men with their hoods up or holding open umbrellas

MothershipG · 04/02/2021 21:12

@Spidey66 Please, please please can you post more pictures of Maggie, she's got such fab markings I need to see all of her! 😂😀

Youngest DDog is scared of phone alert noises, I have no idea why, I swear to god he's been spoilt & never mistreated. He jumps up, looks offended and leaves the room. We all have our phones on silent now but you wouldn't believe how often there are phone noises on tv, we had to stop watching one show it was a feature on.

If oldest DDog has a high value treat he will growl & bark at youngest DDog even if he isn't in the same room (because he's been put in a completely separate room for this very reason).

They are both grumpy old men now.

Boboparadise · 04/02/2021 21:20

My boy will jump off the couch mid sleep around 9.30/10pm and stand at the living room door until someone goes to bed with him. Spoilt rotten

Ljh2019 · 04/02/2021 21:47

Our dog was never fussed by treats, not food driven at all and was non plussed by his food bowl going down. We tried every food under the sun with no luck until one day he started lobbing a little ball with a bell In-between mouthfuls. Nearly 2 years later he will only eat if we throw this bloody ball at the same time.

@SirenSays

The only thing that calms my staffie X when he is injured or sick is videos of sheep. I have no idea why it works but I'm glad it does. He's also obsessed with bubbles, and got a new narwhal shaped bubble machine for Christmas that he plays with every day.
Another bubble fan! Bubbles are definitely like Marmite for dogs....they either love them or they 're not interested at all.

I'm forever commenting on what a weird dog mine is, although I can only think of a couple of examples...
She never wants to go on a walk. You ask her and wherever she is she will fling herself onto the sofa and refuse to move. She LOVES walks so I cannot fathom it. I often end up carrying her down to the front door just so we can go!
Also, whenever she does a little doggy fart, she will jump at the noise, look at her bum accusingly and then sniff where it was before running off!

Ha ha! Yes, our dog is also always surprised by her own farts! We have wooden floors so they sometimes make a funny squeaky sound and she jumps a foot in the air in surprise!
Foresttheout · 06/02/2021 06:31

RIPwalter I also have a racist dog, we live in a very diverse area and it is specifically black males around 20-30 he dislikes. It's very embarrassing and we think maybe something happened to him as a puppy to cause this (rescue) he is slowly getting better thanks to various guys we meet out on dog walks who have been happy to ignore his barking and let him sniff them before building up to stroking him.
My other dog is terrified of masks, it's very funny but also very annoying. It took me a while to figure out why she was suddenly barking at everyone out walking until I realised she didn't do it if people didn't have a mask on. Did a little experiment with a friend who stood in front of her mask on and she barked, as soon as its pulled down she stops, back up and barking again. God knows how we are going to solve that. Hoping she will get over it Blush

HandyBendySandy · 06/02/2021 07:20

@Eckhart No, he's a border terrier!

nexttimeiwontbesoreasonable · 06/02/2021 13:54

Our dog sees barriers. So you can put a piece of cardboard on the stairs and he won't attempt to go past, or put the clothes airer across the room (not even with clothes on) and he won't go near. Unfortunately I didn't discover this useful feature until very recently.
