Joint supplements?

Our dog is 18 months and has just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia.
The vet has advised surgery isn't necessary yet but has prescribed metacam and has suggested controlling weight and exercise.

They've also suggested joint supplements with glucosamine and chondroitin.

Has anyone else used these for their dog and can recommend a particular brand? I've seen yumove and also some cheaper brands which appear similar.

I was in pets at home today looking at glucosamine supplements funnily enough. I was recommended Yumove too, the woman mentioned you can order through them much bigger packs at a better value if they're going to be a long term thing. She said they got a lot of positive feedback from customers.

Your poor dog, I hope they're not in too much pain.

Both my dogs take Yumove and have done for about 5 months now. The older one as he was a bit reluctant to exercise , though there was no sign of joint pain or swelling, the younger one as she has arthritis in her elbow and is also on metacam.
I see a huge difference in the older boy; he is full of life again.
It’s hard to know if it made a difference to my girl as she is always on metacam. The real difference for her was cutting out chasing a ball unless it’s in water.

My girl is 20 months and recently diagnosed with a low grade luxating patella... so not needing surgery yet but probably will eventually.

I have gone for Glycoflex 3 (Amazon) on the recomendation of our breed society, but an equal number use Yumove. Glycoflex come like dog treats and smell like oxo cubes so allegedly patatable (my dog sussed that one but I break it up in her food and she eats it that way). A bag is expensive ut it does go a long way...and seems worth it to try and help .

Btw, Yumove advertise as seeing a difference in 6 weeks. I would say it took longer with my boy - nearer 12 weeks before I could be sure.

My two spaniels are nearly 11 and suffer from stiffness and joint pain after long runs vet recommended joint supplement.

We use these from Vet U.K., if I remember they are almost identical to Yumove but cheaper. Dogs been on them for 8 months now and have a significant impact. (one spaniel seems to think he is 2 again).

Riaflex Canine Joint Plus and Green Lipped Mussel is the most concentrated joint supplement on the market. Buy direct from riaflex.

Thanks everyone.
She rarely appears in pain but we had noticed her being slow to get up after a big walk a couple of times so took her to the vet to just check it out.
On 2 x 30 minutes walks a day with just a few minutes off lead she seems fine. We've stopped taking balls out and are teaching her scent games instead. She's like a Jack in the box, so keeping her calm and not jumping up is the biggest challenge.
