Machine washable car seat cover that allows child car seat too

Hi all,

With all this rain (UK) means and the dog end up covered in mud and my car is too.

I am after a car seat cover that I can chuck in the machine when it gets really bad, but can't see any that will also allow an isofix car seat too.

Do any of you have one?

They are all like this and go all the way across. Do they not think people have kids AND dogs?

I have one of those and have had to sit in the back with my dog when he was ill.

I just unfastened one side and folded it I under so it still covered 2/3 with one seat uncovered. Would that work?

I put a waterproof picnic rug on back seat and just cut slots with a Stanley knife to allow seat belts to slot in.
It has worked well for 4 years !

sunflowersandbuttercups · 31/01/2021 13:00

You can just cut holes in them if you want - the material isn't that strong. I got a cheap one that didn't have holes for the dogs' seatbelt attachment and just used some scissors.

It's still going strong three years later :)

I got mine from a local country warehouse, they are described as 'farmer-proof' and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes to fit various types of car and tractor seats. The one for the back of the car - three seat belt points - had nice big reinforced slots pre-cut. It lasted for three dog cars before I stopped having children to ferry around and moved to having a dog van instead. The front seat shaped ones are still going strong in the Doggy Funbus. Manufacturer is I think Town And Country.

Ok right I'm going to get one and just cut/fold it to fit the isofix and that's a good point about the dog seatbelt, that needs to get through too.

Do you all just chuck yours in the washing machine?

I've got the Kong one which is washable and has holes for the seat belts

Let me see if I can find a link!

It's this one - it's fantastic. We leave it down in the seated position like in the pics most of the time

In the winter mine goes in the bath and I hose it down and scrub any really muddy bits. It's then hung over the clothes rack in the bath and is dry the next morning.

In summer it gets chucked on the patio and hosed down and hung on the fence posts to dry.

Mrstumbletap · 31/01/2021 23:01

I was thinking it might be a hose down job, it does get soo muddy in the back. So that's good to know.

My car interior is black, went to a woodland walk the other day it is now light brown all over. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I have now ordered one, similar to the Kong one you suggested but a bit cheaper.

Thank you all, very helpful as usual.

QueenOfLabradors · 02/02/2021 19:30

I send mine round in the washing machine, but without detergent. Line dry.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 02/02/2021 19:34

Mine goes in the machine on 30 degrees and a cool tumble dry - the same as how I wash my waterproofs.

You can probably re-proof it with Nikwax if necessary but I've never had to.
