If so are they the loyal, gentle giants I imagine? Pros and cons please?
@Sunsun21 not necessarily. It’ll take more than one thread on MN to be sure. Confused
Bouncy and hairy.
Do your research properly.
I agree
We love ours and he’s my 4th but despite the good family dog reputation they aren’t perfect and need a lot of training .
Because they look like teddies people forget they are large dogs with big teeth and don’t treat them with the respect they should

I have a St. Bernard x Bernese mountain dog. He is a huge, calm, cuddly giant. He stands still for kids to pet him when we're out though can be a bit enthusiastic with adults. He adores our 2 dc, even though they can be a bit chaotic. He doesn't take food from the table and won't surf under the table for dropped bits unless we tell him he can. He doesn't go on furniture as he prefers stretching out. He likes to be within touching distance when we're in but is very calm and happy by himself when we're out. He can be strong on the lead but we have done a lot of work and he generally walks nicely. He's a bit of a fussy eater. Very very hairy. He's so gentle and lovely.

Cons are the shorter life span and the attention from everyone everywhere. We can't go anywhere without people wanting to stroke him and ask about him.

We were very firm and consistent with him from the start, if he thinks you don't know the rules he will try and push his luck 😂 dh takes him from work and often comes back to the office to find him sitting on someone's knee because they've let him out and he's taking advantage 😂

@MisgenderedSwan we had our bergers at the beach this weekend...I think I must have been stopped about 20 times in half an hour! Grin

A friend of mine had a BMD, a beautiful, beautiful girl! Gentle and friendly and best friend of her 7 y.o DD. Unfortunately, she ended up with a twisted stomach and they lost her, they took her to the vet immediately (my friend is a doctor, she figured out ASAP what the issue was) but the poor dog didn't make it, she died during the surgery Sad Sad
