Hi all
Ive got a 6 month old half cocker spaniel half bichon.
Toilet training is one step forward 2 back. We still havent cracked it, he will wee & poo outside i go crazy on praise, we come back in shortly after he goes again inside the house. Im using an enzyme based cleaner. Then carpet cleaner to clean up. He also frequently wees on my little boys bed, if we forget to close the door - this is also after weeing outside eg this morning went out wee'd loads of praise. Back in snuck in ds bedroom & wee'd on his bed.
Im restricting his living area access & watching him as much as possible. He doesnt cry or bark to go out.
Please help!

I'd say you need to do the obvious and stop him going upstairs so install a stair gate. That immediately solves that problem. If you can't use a stair gate then it's being vigilant and getting into the habit of ensuring all doors are closed

You're right in now restricting him to one room if possible. Also, if he wees and poos outside then keep up with the praise. Him then coming inside snd doing it again is another matter. I'd let him in , give it five mins and then poo him on a lead, take him outside once more and hide the command to go.

It does sound a little like he could be marking perhaps too so consider that

I’d consider neutering once the vet says it’s ok too.

Thanks suzi888 I did wonder about that, i'll speak to our vet.

Good luck. Pup will get it in the end! My lab was quite difficult to train, we found a visiting dog coming into the garden to do lots of business encouraged him to go outside rather than in! (Visiting dog did not come inside the house though).

Door bells?
Our pup is a lot younger but we have been told to keep him outside for a few minutes after he has gone to make sure. Just now he had some food and I took him straight out then played with him and had him on my knee for ten minutes then took him out again. Now he’s playing on the floor. If he doesn’t go to sleep I’ll take him out again in ten more minutes. Basically while he’s awake and on the floor we constantly take him out.

Use high-value treats as well as praise as a motivator. Lots of dogs won't respond to praise alone.

What ingredients are in the carpet cleaner? You may be accidentally undoing the work of the enzyme cleaner.

Dpup seemed to crack it after a couple of days of using chicken as a reward. He got chicken only for a wee outside. He's not perfect, but something definitely clicked with the chicken!

Thanks All,
Good thinking I'm not sure whats in the carpet cleaner - didnt think that might undo the enzyme cleaner - i'll check.

Also I didn't think of trying chicken! I like the look of door bells as well. 🤞something will click soon.
