He’s 11 ,he’s got pancreatitis,so we couldn’t treat the cushings .
He’s back at the vets tomorrow because he’s started panting heavily and can’t settle ...is this time ...or would there be more signs ...I don’t want him to suffer ...

My boxer had Cushings which we could treat pretty well but then developed something else which she would’ve needed steroids for which would have stopped the others from working. She was 13. It was a really hard decision because being a boxer she still had moments of energy that made it seem she had more life in her. But she started just falling to the side sometimes which was heartbreaking. And didn’t want to eat. And she had terrible accidents which made me doubt whether I was being selfish for even considering having her PTS. I also had a new baby. Just saying I know how how it feels and it’s a difficult decision.
I would talk to your vet about different options but the main thing to think about is, is your dog going to get any better? Is your dog happy? In pain?

We haven’t even had him a year ..we adopted him mid March last year.
He’s drinking and weeing a lot .the vet said he didn’t like his tummy touched .
He’s had so many procedures since we got him..
So he came with a lump under his chin ,which needed investigation ,while that was happening,he became ill ,and went in for tests ,they came back as pancreatitis ,then the lump came back as a tumour ,so he had an op to remove it .
Then he became ill again ,and had 3 days in and out of vets having tests ,and they said cushings...then he needed 8 teeth removed.
All in one year ..he’s nearly 12 .

We had the vets appointment, and she said the panting might not be down to the cushings ..she’s not suggested any further tests ,just said bring him back if he gets worse .

Well that’s not very helpful. Your poor dog he doesn’t sound well. Did you talk about having him PTS with the vet? They don’t always bring it up, I think they wait for you too. If he’s in pain it’s not a nice life for him. I’m sorry you’ve had all the difficult times with this dog but he’s lucky to have you.

No ,it never occurred to me to ask to PTS .
He’s ok ...not had any panting since ..but he’s not wanting to walk much on a walk

The vet said she doesn’t think he’s in pain ,as that was one of the things I do worry about ..

We had our Ben pts on Wednesday
He was 12
He had suffered a couple of bouts of pancreatitis over the past 2 years but they very quickly resolved. He was right as rain 3 weeks ago then got a very severe attack of pancreatitis - panting shaking and staring.
He had 2 weeks of in and out of the vets / spending time on a drip and shedloads of meds. It was an up and down game some days he was better then others not good. On Tuesday he got much worse and was very very weak we had to carry him to the vets
They had suggested a special scan to check inside snd it was booked for Wednesday
It showed liver cancer which was causing the nasty pancreatitis flare up.
We had to let him go and are heartbroken
Having been down this road I would suggest a scan to get up the bottom of this
We were told pancreatitis can be very painful
I’m sorry to share such bloody bad news but i would get to the bottom of it
Even if it’s just pancreatitis he needs meds
Our Ben was on buscopan gabapentin
Zitac and an anti sickness tablet.
Sometimes a different vets opinion is useful at that practice or a different one.
I hope you get to the bottom of this for your baby xxx
