We've been looking for months too. Maybe this is where I'm going wrong.
I might put up an ad on Gumtree.
"Wanted. Young ish dog. Free or cheap"

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/01/2021 08:04

Beagles are the hardest breed. Prone to wondering off. Greedy. Can’t have them off the lead unless you want to wait 3 hours for them to return....

Get a goldfish.

tabulahrasa · 21/01/2021 09:14

“Have you looked at breed specific rescues? Pointer, lab or lab-coated labradoodle might suit your needs”

Yeah I follow about 6 different ones on Facebook, rofl... it’s the cat that’s the issue and then of course covid.

Hi
First used to have a Beagle but sadly passed, it was a Tri colour.
So that's why I would like another one, they don't lose alot of hair, well my one didn't.
I have asked if any one has a free one , but I am willing to pay a small amount.
I am not a breeder, just a normal person with alot of love for a Beagle dog.
That is the dog I like.

@MorMar no one is going to give you a dog for free.
Rescues charge to cover their costs.
If you want a specific breed then start saving and contact the breed club to be put in touch with a breeder.

MorMar · 21/01/2021 09:39

I have not got any other dog at present, and as a Newbie I think I have been given a hard time on this mumsnet.
I am off.

@MorMar, assuming you're genuine, I would suggest both Beagle Welfare and Many Tears as the two best rescue sources for beagles. Both will have an adoption fee, so it won't be free, but will be considerably cheaper than buying a puppy.

Beagle puppies are currently selling in the £2000-£3000 range.

Alternatively, there is a group bringing over beagles from Cyprus. They are active on facebook, name "Cyprus Beagles".

raspberrysundaes · 21/01/2021 10:13

You've not been given a hard time - but people aren't going to tell you where you can get a free dog of a certain colour - do you not realise how dodgy that sounds?

If you genuinely want a beagle, then do it properly. Either register with a breeder (but be prepared to wait and pay upwards of 2k at the moment) or go to a rescue such as Beagle Welfare and go on their waiting lists.

But coming on a forum and asking for a "free tricolour beagle dog" is not gong to do gown well. If you go to a rescue and ask the same, they won't think you're suitable either.

Bye bye. If you can’t afford to buy a dog you probably can’t afford to own one.
Hoppinggreen · 21/01/2021 10:17

I used to have a convertible BMW that I really liked
It was black so I would prefer that same colour
Does anyone know where I can get one? Preferably free but I would be prepared to pay a small amount

Reinventinganna · 21/01/2021 10:18

I think you have misunderstood mumsnet.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 21/01/2021 10:22

Dogs and puppies are very expensive at the moment, it’s highly unlikely someone will just give one away for free.

Krazynights34 · 26/01/2021 00:41

@Veterinari
Yes the Ip did say a beagle dog and I’m aware of what sex specific words are in relation to dogs. Not everyone is.
A beagle dog could well be what someone says when they might equally say “I want a dog. A spaniel dog”.
And oat yourself on the back for being the one to point that out. I’m probably stupid but my first thought was that I have (I do) a tricolour male beagle and when he dies I’d ideally have another beagle tricolour dog (male in case I’m falling prey to my own non-clarity).
The OP might be fucking genuinely upset and asking for a dog that they would love and can’t afford the £2000 a beagle DOG would cost right now.
But you win the award for most observant comments

Krazynights34 · 26/01/2021 00:41

Pat not oat - another error!

Blimey is there anyone who doesn't get a hard time on MN. OP asked a simple question and gets pages of abuse hurled at her/him. I've had beagles for years they are hard work but lovely pets, the one I have now is a rescue and and tri colour!!

Did you post on the internet expecting someone to give you one for free though? That might be the difference. It hardly smacks of a responsible approach to pet ownership does it?
withmycoffee · 29/01/2021 07:35

@MamaTT

What an odd post. But whatever. I’ve a 3 year old tri beagle and another beagle pup arriving next month. They are exceptionally hard work. Generally can’t be let off lead although my 3yo is let off the lead only when I have a bag full of treats to coax her back. They are hard to train. They’re stubborn. They’re noisy. They shed hair like there’s no tomorrow. Rescues are full of them as they’re such hard work and people give up on them. Don’t get one off gumtree for £100. You’d know nothing of the dogs history. Go down the proper avenue of a rescue. Fwiw my 3yo is a rescue but as I’ve had another child since, rescues won’t allow us to rescue with a child so young at home so our pup is coming from a licensed breeder.
They are a nightmare. I adore ours but I'd never get another. Why are you getting a second one may I ask?

Are you sure you had a beagle? They shed like nothing else. And you can't brush out the hairs. You just have to let them fall out. EVERYWHERE.
