Raw food HELP PLEASE

So I posted a couple of days ago about switching to raw food. I ordered the one I wanted (nature menu) arriving on Friday. I'm just so confused/stressed/worried about the amounts. I used their food calculator and said he should have 342g a day. But then if I used a general one it says 200g a day and then another says 90g I'm so confused. I don't understand as they are all 80/10/10 so how can the amounts vary so much. I don't want to give him too little. Any help or advice would be so appreciated! He is 7 months old, cavapoochon and weighs 4.5kg he has stopped growing now as hes a toy, not sure if that's relevant! Thank you!

Yes that’s where I read it! Although other places say you can gradually mix? I was nearly out of the old food at the time so went with that.

I would straight swop too.
I would start with 5% of body weight split over two meals.

112grams per meal.

Watch how your dog reacts. Raw feed dogs can change shape but keep the same weight so do weigh your dog regularly to see how they are getting on.

Which Natures Menu have you ordered as some of it is not complete raw food?

Mammaaof · 14/01/2021 13:17

@PollyRoulson thank you! I have ordered all of the "complete food" to start off I just thought it was easier to get started. But I've also ordered some of the little livers for treats maybe once a week I know he can't have a lot of liver. Also I've ordered a couple of the Beef throat, ducks necks, chicken wings for him to try! I've stuck with the softer bones to get him started. Does this sound ok to you? 🙈

Cool yes if you have their complete food that is good.

Sounds fab. I would go very easy on the liver to start with maybe not give the liver treats for a few weeks.

Stick to one type of food for a week or so then change to another to see how he gets on.

If it’s the frozen nuggets you are brave buying £60 worth , my dog wouldn’t touch them .

Mammaaof · 14/01/2021 15:00

Ok brill thank you @PollyRoulson.
@Floralnomad yes it's the nuggets. Hope he likes them x

@Floralnomad what did you change to if you don't mind me asking?

We’ve tried everything, our dog ( 10 yr old 15kg patterdale x) is extremely fussy . We had already tried raw proper but he can’t eat bones due to having an issue with his teeth and he would only eat chicken raw , no other meat / offal . We then tried the nuggets which he wouldn’t go near at all . I then did him home cooked food which he would eat but I didn’t think it was a proper balanced diet and it was extremely time consuming . We then decided to go for a wet / dry mix so he now has Millie’s wolfheart kibble and Applaws small tins/ pouches as they are the only ones he will reliably eat all the time . It’s not cheap because he’s really too big to be eating tins designed for lapdogs but he goes off other wet food really quickly . Good luck with it I hope your dog enjoys it .

My dog had those a couple of years ago. Really easy to use. We use a different brand now as they worked out quite expensive. But for a first time user they are good :)

If you are on Facebook join Barf UK. They have a transition guide I've used for two different dogs.
