Chair for dog

I had a faux leather office chair that began to peel. I had the idea of bequeathing it to DDog so that he could sit and look out of the window. But the continuing peeling and flaking (and his digging in it) is making such a mess I shall have to throw the chair out. Any ideas for what I could replace it with? The main problem will be DDog's digging and scratching the seat before settling down. He loves the chair so much (near the window and the radiator) that I don't like to take it away.

Can you simply replace it with something cheap - from FB marketplace or similar secondhand source? That way, if it gets destroyed, it's not a big loss.

FB for a second had leather armchair but fit thick fleecy covers to it or tucked well round it from the start maybe?

Our dog will concur that if you add washable blankets to ‘dig’ a perfect bed in both dog and owner will be happy and house not stinky.

Yep good ideas thankyou.

Would taping over the seat with duct tape or similar be too unsightly?

DDog and the (further) ruined chair. That big white patch is scratched-off surface btw, not sunlight.

Would securing sheepskin to it work? Quite tough, but cosy.

Happinessisawarmcervix · 05/03/2021 22:15

Bless him! Couldn’t you just toss a throw over it - covers the damage and gives him something to “dig”?

GameofPhones · 05/03/2021 22:27

Yes I have a spare piece of sheepskin-type material. I will try securing that to the chair. Failing that, throw the chair out and get another cheap one that's not so easily damaged. It's not so much the damage to the chair I mind, but the scratched-off flakes that make a mess on the carpet. Don't buy one of these faux leather chairs, btw - the surface peels off horribly.

Rubber back vetbed so it doesn't slide off, could possibly sew on some straps to keep in place too. Maybe just duck tape over the chairs damaged flaky bits.
