Just found out my boy has bone cancer

Last Tuesday we had the most heartbreaking news that a lovely almost 7 year old bullmastiff has bone cancer in his front right ankle. We are completely crushed. We have brought him home for palliative care and to give him as much love as possible. Can anyone give me any advice of what to look out for in terms of when they're ready to go? He's sleeping lots now but that might be the tramadol he's been prescribed. It's so hard to decide when a good time is for us let him go and I don't want him to suffer in any way. Also with the bullmastiff breed it's very difficult to determine how they're feeling as they have a very high pain threshold. Any advice would be really helpful.

How are you and the boy @Lizbiz89?

Lizbiz89 · 04/02/2021 22:53

@HerMammy he's still with us. He's getting weaker in his front leg but he's still eating his food and wagging his tail bless him. Every time we think we're getting near the time he seems to perk up. Thank you for still thinking of us 😊

Hope your boy’s still having good days, so a horrible situation and the emotional rollercoaster is awful I’m sure xxx

Just to update you we let our beautiful boy go this afternoon. Feeling absolutely devastated and guilty but I know that's just part of the grief. His pain became unmanageable and it was too cruel to keep him going. I miss him so much already but I know it was the right thing to do. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

Oh no. I am so sorry. You did exactly what you needed to for him and he was so lucky to have you. He was such a handsome chap.

Take care of yourself. It is utterly shite the next bit.

@HerMammy thank you for your support. The house feels very empty this morning. Won't be the same without him. I'm just happy I could relieve his pain, as much as it broke my heart. X
