Inspired by the style and beauty board but for us dog walkers looking for inspiration to update their footwear/clothing.

So maybe we could have a what did you wear on your last dog walk perhaps bargains/anything you have your eye on.

I'll start- just wrestled off some very old trusty Ugg wellies bought as a gift years ago but thinking it would be better to have some ankle wellies. I'm coveting some joules wellibobs but will more likely purchase some mountain warehouse ones as more budget friendly.

Lockdown has me looking pretty scruffy but not sure I can be motivated to change right now so hoping I can steal some ideas. Probably looking for more comfort ideas rather than style but it would be nice to have both.

Can anyone recommend some nice thin gloves that keep your fingers from freezing solid but still allow you to dispense treats/open poo bags?

I would also be interested in this. Everyone in my family knows I am perpetually looking for my left glove - having taken it off to dispense treats with that hand and subsequently dropped it somewhere.

Luckily GhostPup is starting to learn there are MORE treats if he uses his rather excellent sniffer equipment to help me find it again Grin

Have you tried SealSkin? They're thin and waterproof.

It did occur to me as I was walking the dog this morning, nervously shuffling along black ice, that if I fell and broke something and got carted off to A&E I would be mortified by what I was wearing under my coat. Leggings with doggy toothpaste mark on them and thermal top, like very unflattering long-johns. I would have to insist on keeping my coat on. I can recommend the Uniqlo heattech gloves though, I can open poo bags with them on.

That made me laugh as I had exactly the same thought this morning

I not only stank of dog as the puppy had rolled in a giant muddy puddle then given me a massive kiss Blush but I had my thermal top on and my thermal pants Blush with my Sainsburys Xmas knickers that I accidentally bought because I thought they were normal knickers but in fact are adorned with Xmas regalia

Baggy fleece and muddy jeans with PJs underneath Blush this thread came along in time to save me Grin

By the sound of all this, we'd better all stay off the actual S&B pages...Grin

Oh, and Sealskinz are well recommended. I know people who have them...

I thought this was going to be a thread about outfits for your DDog ;).

Pink collar or diamante? Jumper or tutu? How DO you persuade them to wear little boots?

Or possibly fancy grooming and haircuts. Should your DPoodle go au naturel or full show cut?

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 05/01/2021 13:07

I've just thought: if you walk in the countryside or in any off-road area, take your mobile phone with the What3Words app. That way, if you fall and break a bone, or find an animal or person in distress, you can contact the emergency services with a precise location. I once had to report a fire in the middle of private land half a mile from the nearest lane, and it was really hard to give directions.

I would love some recommendations for waterproof warm boots, I have reynauds and cant find anything which keep my feet warm.

I bought a waterproof feather and down coat from TK Max during the summer and it is blood brilliant. I also wear ski gloves and a thermal beanie. I do have to take my gloves off to pick up poo!

doodleygirl · 05/01/2021 15:07

bloody brilliant, not blood, there is no blood on my dog walks!

Sorry I'm late to this thread but some great ideas here. I tend to throw on skinny jeans as I can just about then get my legs in my wellies. Thick calves lol.

I've been looking at Açai leggings for ages as it rains a lot here but wonders how good they were in The rain / drizzle / cold. Also do they keep you warm?

Also if anyone has any great wellies that fit wide calves please let me know.
