Sighthound Coat

Any suggestions for a good place to get a coat for a sighthound? She’s between whippet and greyhound size and ideally I need a coat with a harness hole, warm and preferably waterproof. Also, would like it to not rustle too much as she’s a scatty madam. I have had a look online but there’s so many - and some seem quite bulky - so hoping for some recommendations. Thanks

Have you tried equafleece? They don’t look waterproof but they are and I believe they make special ones with longer necks for sighthounds. They don’t have a harness hole but I just put my dogs harness on over the coat.

I also recommend equafleece , our patterdale x has quite a selection of their coats / suits and the harness goes over the top with no problems . They wash and dry beautifully and last a long time if looked after properly .

We have one of these from Kitsch Collars for DGreyhound: www.kitschcollars.com/sighthound-coats/fleece-lined-waterproof-sighthound-coat

It's waterproof and very cosy and we get lots of comments on how smart he looks. The only downside is that if you don't ensure the tummy part is correctly positioned, you can end up with splashes of wee on it that need to be sponged off (at least with a male dog, I don't know whether it'd also be a problem witha female one).

Thanks - they both look great. Just have to persuade her to wear one now :)

Springfields very cosy greyhound coat and no rustle

Photo of course required. I recommend Equafleece too.

My hounds have Milgi coats - the starry waterproof is a favourite

We have tried many online. Never seem to fit properly .. Pets at home allow trying on!! Managed to get a fleece lined waterproof quiet mac for £17!

The best one I've ever had was random quilted thing off ebay, still using it on a whippet despite being too big. Go smaller with Equafleece, mine have always stretched on washing, swamping the poor mutts.

wibblewombat · 04/01/2021 15:05

Struggling with harnesses too, trying to avoid another Ruffwear as they're expensive but cheaper ones aren't fitting well.

Strike000 · 04/01/2021 15:22

We’ve ordered a few things from Spuds Dog Coats and they’ve been great (and great value for money). It’s run by a woman who makes everything to order for your dogs measurements. I don’t know her, just came across her on a sighthound FB page but whenever my dog is wearing her coats we get lots of compliments and I recommend this page to dog walkers we meet every few weeks!

Ah, Polly and Nell look lovely. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - really helpful. I''ll try to upload a pic, haven't done it before so it may go pear-shaped!

Wibble - I use a Perfect Fit harness and it fits really well (perfectly in fact :) ) They come in 3 separate pieces which helps them suit each dog. V happy with it.

Can't seem to upload a pic!

We have a dinosaur dog jumper from Spuds and it is really well made, and guaranteed to make people smile!

@wibblewombat have a look at Indi dog for harnesses , I’m not sure if they are doing a made to measure service at the moment as they suspend it occasionally but their harnesses are excellent , reasonably priced and well made . Our dog has 2 of the Houdini type ( made to measure ) and they’ve washed and lasted really nicely .
