Europe-issued pet passport following Brexit

Everywhere I've looked, it states that after Brexit, UK-issued pet passports will no longer be valid for travel to Europe. Does anyone know about the 1000's of rescue dogs in the UK with passports issued in other European countries? I would presume they would be subject to the same rules as any other UK resident dog, but I haven't actually seen anything to say this, and every source seems to be very specific in stating "UK-issued". Anyone know?

As far as we know so far, your passport will remain valid for entering the uk but not for entering the EU. You will need a new animal health certificate for each entry into the EU. We think. But we vets are still getting our heads round it too ...
