This has made me feel sick this morning. Don't take your eyes off your dogs if you can possibly help it when you're out and step up your security. I hadn't realised the extent of it Sad

@HmmSureJan Truly horrendous, isn't it! :(

I honestly think partial blame lies at the door of those who are paying crazy money for dogs at the moment. Even if I wanted a dog ( I don’t) there is no way in hell I’d pay thousands for one.

It doesn't help that lots of people search online and will buy a puppy from places like pets 4 homes or facebook with no thought as to where the animal is coming from or how the parents are kept.

My dog goes to daycare when we're out and the house has cameras front and back. I don't even leave him alone to have a wee in the garden because I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if someone took him.

I'd love to know what @cherrypie790 said that was deletion worthy on my well meaning thread.

I imagine she’s recently paid thousands for one and was feeling defensive, who knows!!

Nonagoninfinity · 19/12/2020 08:01

I agree that people's impatience to get a dog 'now' is driving this, paying ££££ for designer breeds without doing research about the sellers. It's nuts.

On a related note, we have a gorgeous but 100% Heinz 57 dog. Am I being naive thinking she is 'safer' from dog thieves because she isn't fashionable? Lots of people where I live now keep their dogs on a lead all the time for fear of them being taken. We don't as she likes to run around and explore (in sight and under control obviously!)

cherrypie790 · 19/12/2020 15:08

Not a chance - both of my dogs came from local breeders, and the 1st cost £200 (working cocker) and we paid £500 for our youngest who is a sprocker.

It was an observation about dog theft that clearly upset someone Hmm

oneglassandpuzzled · 19/12/2020 15:11

Victim-blaming, much!

cherrypie790 · 19/12/2020 16:20

Far from it, it was about the pondscum that are doing it.

As long as there is a huge demand thieves will carry on. I'm shocked at the prices people are charging more so the idiots that are paying these back street breeders.

Bayleaf25 · 21/12/2020 09:27

At the point of theft how do they know if a dog has been spayed or not? I’m guessing many dogs wouldn’t be of use to them but how would they know?
Feeling sick at the thought of my baby being taken x
