Raw salmon head

Is it okay to let my dog eat a raw salmon head, tail and spine. I obviously wouldn’t let him have it all in one go. I’ve just divided up the main part of the salmon into fillets and have some leftover bits. Are fish bones okay for dogs? Confused

No because of the risk of parasites and brittle bones.

One well known issue that often makes dog owners question fish as an ingredient of dog food is the potential of salmon poisoning syndrome; this condition is caused by internal parasites that can be present within salmon and other types of fish that swim upstream to breed. While rare, it is an incredibly serious condition that may potentially prove fatal. However, the risk of salmon poisoning syndrome is only present within raw fish

You should never let dogs eat salmon if it is raw or under-cooked as it contains bacteria and parasites which are harmful to dogs

Do not ever give your dog raw or undercooked salmon. It can contain the Neorickettsia helminthoeca parasite, which causes salmon poisoning disease. This disease can be fatal. In addition ,raw salmon contains lots of small bones, which are brittle and can choke your dog or lodge in his stomach or intestines

Thanks for your reply @Bringbackthestrips. No raw fish for him then. I decided to boil what was left in the end and hand strip off the remaining flesh. It’s for the best because I started to get a bit creeped out at the thought of him eating the raw head. Not sure why though. I’m not usually Squeamish.

I always cook fish for mine. I chop head off and remove bones . I tend to put in the oven and wrap in foil to stop so much smell. There are a lot of parasites on raw food.
