Hello, I’ve a 10wk old puppy who has been with us for a week and a half. She sleeps fairly well at night and a couple of solid naps during the day. At the start and end of the day she is frantic and I am feeling quite trapped by her. She’s in the kitchen mostly and is v hyper in the morn and from 5pm onwards.

This evening we have left her in the kitchen since 8ish as she was just manic - lots of mouthing, frantic sniffing an unable to settle. She wined for a bit but then went to her crate so think she was overtired

She is due to get 2nd vaccines this week. Do things ease up a bit when they can get out for walks? Just now it feels a bit like cabin fever and being hemmed in.

All advice welcome!

I have a 10 week old pup and he has manic moments just before he drops to sleep. He is horribly bitey as well. However I have pretty much got him sussed except that he will only sleep with someone, preferably me!

It's been nearly 14 years since we last had a little puppy in the family and I can't imagine how I managed with a small child.

Our routine is that I get up when he does - between 7 - 8 a.m. and within an hour he has had his breakfast and curled up on my knee. Through the day I try and keep him on the floor as much as possible with my other dogs or we go to my mum and he plays with his toys. He has a sleep in the crate for an hour or two in the middle of the morning, on my knee at lunch time, another hour or so with the big dogs and a cuddle when my husband comes in from work. I give him a Kong while we have dinner and then he has his last meal around 9 ish.

He can be a monster then and I have found that if I pick him up and carry him around from room to room for a couple of minutes it calms him down.

Unfortunately the vaccination he had before he left the breeder is not available from my vet so he has to start from scratch next week so it will be a while before we are able to go out on the lead. In the meantime I am taking him out in a sling so that he meets people and gets used to traffic etc.

He has lots of chewable toys and is a natural at playing fetch which is really helps with wearing him out.

He sleeps in his crate at night so I can take him to the toilet without waking up too much!

Here is my 11 week old puppy. I am hoping he calms down when we can start taking him out but we still have another 2 weeks to wait. He has settled in really well and toilet training is going great but he does seem to need a lot of entertaining. He isnt interested in kongs or most chews. He prefers human fleshShock

This sounds similar to my 10 week spaniel puppy @Anna713 - not interested in her many toys, ankles and our rug seem to make much better chews!
Am counting down the days till we can go out for a walk!

Oh yeah, totally normal. I remember this with mine. Totally took over my life for the first couple of months, despite only being as big as my foot! I couldn't blink without being called upon desperately for attention.

She's grown up into the most peaceful dog to have around the house. Loves time on her own (she sometimes goes in the other room, even when I'm home) and she loves snuggles.

Don't worry. It's meant to be mayhem at first!

For mouthing, emit a very loud 'OW!!!' and walk away, Keep your back turned for a minute. I've known a few puppies but I've yet to meet one who didn't learn from this very quickly. Everybody in the house has to do it.

Thanks Eckhart. I'll try that. It's good to know they can grow up to be peaceful and I'm praying my dpup will grow up the same. We have had a dog many years ago and he was lovely. I can't remember him being this attention seeking and bitey and I had three children at home then.
