Anyone else had a dog with pancreatitis? My dog had a bad bout early Sept. Changed his diet and been very careful but he's come down again with it this week. Been to the vets but they just give painkillers and the poor thing is still clearly very uncomfortable. Wish I knew how we could help.

Yes one of mine had it three years ago. He was hospitalised at the vets for four days on intravenous fluids & antibiotics. He was on a special kibble from the vet afterwards till he died last year.
What did the vet tell you this time?

The vet just gave painkillers. He is much better today though so I think he’s on his way out of it. Just not sure how we can do more than what we’re currently doing to avoid another bout.

What diet is he on? You need to be careful ordinary dog food quotes fat percentage as wet matter so when you recalculate to dry matter they are often very high fat.
Prescription diets quote their fat percentage as dry matter so are genuinely low fat.
Ideally pancreatitis responds best to hospitalisation intravenous fluids, antiemetics and opioid pain relief. We had two in the hospital overnight last night and another one tonight.

He’s on royal cabin renal (has both wet and dry) because he’s in early stage kidney failure too. The vet said to give renal rather than pancreatitis food - we tried to check it was a lower fat one.

One of my dogs had it. You need to keep your dog on a special low fat diet. I had to give my dog hills prescription diet food.
