Hi we have a 6 month old saluki and have just rehomed a 10 month old whippet. Does anyone has experience with whippets? Any tips, she seems good but nervous which is understandable but very different to our saluki.

Thanks

We have a whippet - though he is still only a baby (18 weeks) - so I am by no means an expert.

We have 2 Lurchers and a saluki /deerhound cross.

Ime of smaller pointy ddogs they like warm jumpers.
And they fold up very small..
Yabu not to post pics!!

Live action shot - lurcher not whippet but sure you'll forgive that.

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 24/11/2020 11:10

Surely that blanket should be around your ddog??

Indecisivelurcher · 24/11/2020 11:16

Oh yes crikey, iabu!!! Have fixed the issue.

My whippy loves me, his food, his bed, his toys and his warm jumper. In that order.

If she is nervous, you could try crating her with some cuddly toys, when things get a bit too busy for her. Feed her away from your other dog - Whippets are notoriously food obsessed.

Here is my pointy dog in his favourite position.

They are absolute feed thieves and will have anything given the chance.

GADDay · 24/11/2020 11:20

@nicetwin - we also have that bed

imabusybee · 24/11/2020 11:20

They are just fantastic dogs Grin I love them. I have a Bedlington x whippet and she's daft as a brush but infinitely loveable. We need pics!!!

Stephplus2 · 24/11/2020 11:23

Whippets are the best!
They are both hot water bottles and personal trainers (long walks needed)
They are loving, loyal wonderful dogs.

thefishcake · 24/11/2020 11:36

Have a whippet.

Loves - warm radiators, fires, blankets.

Incredibly lazy (struggles to get out of bed until 10am)

Don't need a huge amount of exercise - let them run, as as they are so fast, they cover ground really quickly, and then home to nap.

Hates the rain, loves warm snuggly coats, treats, and snuggles.

Sleeps, a lot!

Can have poor recall (especially if they spot a squirrel!)

Have a very long neck, so you may want to get a raised bowl.

Don't bark very much either.

Very chilled and friendly :)

imabusybee · 24/11/2020 12:15

@Stephplus2 they are absolutely gorgeous dogs! Looks like they've bonded already too, lovely pics Grin

Stephplus2 · 24/11/2020 13:02

Thanks everyone. She's very well behaved but very clingy xx
