Alternative to cocker?

We had a cocker spaniel who died of age related illness 15 years ago. Am just ruminating about another dog for when I take retirement (I’ll be 60 when I go).

I think a spaniel of this size or even a bit bigger would be fine, but I would like to think about breeds other than cockers as I just feel she was irreplaceable.

Any thoughts? Requirements are sunny personality, energetic but not needing 3 hour walks, not too large a dog (can’t face the poop). Preferably a spaniel. Thanks.

Hi OP we met a really lovely type of Spaniel on a walk yesterday, a Dutch breed called the Kooikerhondje. I'd never heard of it but apparently it's an old breed (Kooikerhondje).

We have a sprocker puppy who is happiest cuddling on our laps. He’s a beautiful dog who loves a run but is also happy and quiet at home. We’ve just had two weeks self isolating and we’re worried he would be stressed/destructive without walks but he’s been a dream!
