Rough Collies

Have fallen in love with one! Have the opportunity to buy a 9 month old. Does anyone have one and can let me know plusses and minuses. I have owned a dog before but not for a while and although have been dog broody before couldn't act on it due to work but covid means that DH is now wfh for the forseable before we retire.

Ridiculously excited but don't know if we are being daft. Any experience with rough collies appreciated.

Beautiful dogs with a lovely temperament. Ideally I would recommend daily grooming though as their fur can become matted. My daughters grandparents have three.

Lots of grooming!
And remember they are collies, a working breed so need a decent amount of exercise/mental stimulation.

warriorsmain · 17/11/2020 20:47

Surprisingly they don't need too much exercise but I would agree a decent sized garden to play fetch and add some mental stimulation.

Thank you all. Unfortunately, I don't think it is going to happen as I sent an email with questions this morning about eye testing and type of food so we could replicate, and haven't had anything back so I assume she either thinks we aren't suitable or someone has beat us to it. However, more time to research...

Breeders can be busy, you might hear back yet. They are worth waiting for if it's the breed that you definitely want. They only tend to need a complete brush once a week if not blowing their coat. Just check behind the ears and arm pits for mats every day. Best dog in the world! They aren't like border collies, they are quite happy to laze around on a rainy day.

He likes to give us 'the paw' :-)

@hennaoj beautiful 😍 - definitely worth waiting for. My daughters grandparents have three, two from puppies and one rescue. Each just as lovely as the other and they are all so gentle with my 5 year old.

myfatiguehastiredness · 19/11/2020 10:12

@hennaoj Thank you! We all love a cuddly, coated dog but a beardie, which I have had, wouldn't fit our lifestyle - absolute mud monsters although I love them - and the rough just seem more chilled and we need that as my eldest son is a bit nervous of dogs so won't cope with manic hound. It just seems odd that the breeder called me within half an hour of emailing her and now has gone silent so I assume someone else has contacted them. Fairenoughski!

Exciting! When will puppy be born/available?

@hennaoj's is gorgeous.

myfatiguehastiredness · 22/11/2020 21:16

@Ellmau February - hopefully for my half term. We are planning and thinking how to organise husband's work room to puppy proof it!
