We've been thinking for a while to get a second dog, I've got a 9 year old dog now who we've had since a puppy, love her so much, shes a very independent dog she's collie, likes to be outside alot were on a farm, she has worked in the past tho now just now and again for her benefit, She could have so much attention I'm at home, but she just doesn't seem bothered, wants to be outside, doesn't want to sit in the same room with us, appears when there is food,
I really really want an effectiont dog, tho know I don't know if its to late, I don't want her to get annoyed, we've had a behaviourist out to see if there was anything we could do to encourage her to want to be with us, but she said she's fine she's got a great life it's just the ay she is, which is fine but I want/need doggy cuddles! looked at rescue and doesn't seem possible with a toddler and I've found a breeder my friend has had 2 dogs from at different and I'm so jealous of all the cuddles and love there dog gives to them and her kids, I don't think my dog will actually be that bothered how can she? but maybe she will as she does love us just doesn't want to show it, anyone mixed a new dog with a older slightly moody dog? Non aggressive and she is so loved but she's just like nope I don't want to play or cuddle or have much to do with you really, it's abit draining.

We introduced a puppy to a not-very-dog-social older dog. Everything settled down quickly and the puppy is now an adult who is very friendly, and the not-very-dog-social dog is a fairly placid old git who potters about and gets what he wants out of life.

I actually many years ago had a very traumatised older dog who didnt like other dogs we asked our lovely vet for advise and he said you rarely hear of older dogs attacking puppies. old grumpy dog Completely ignored puppy for maybe a week refused to even be in a room with her but then slowly started to like her and she gave him a new lease of life although he made sure he established he was the alpha they played together and absolutely loved each other and I never really saw any jealousy they lived out the rest of there lives happy together. I’d go for it Grin

I would say go for it, but be careful of the breed you chose, and get a female rather than a male.
