Kennel Cough :(

Pretty sure DDog has it. He's otherwise in good health and is eating and drinking fine, happy to go out etc. Does he need the vet? Or do we just have to let it run it's course? Poor little bloke. He usually sleeps on my bed but I kept him in the kitchen with his bed and blankets on the floor as the coughing was intermittent during the night and waking us all up. It was awful. I should have just kept him with me as I couldn't sleep for missing him and worrying about him anyway. Any thoughts or positivity please?

Oh the poor wee doggie, absolutely see your vet as it can be bacterial so they can prescribe an antibiotic. Also if it is kennel cough it’s very contagious so maybe mention this when booking you apt as dogs with a low immune system can pick it up easily
Hope he feels better soon.

My vet tends to not want to see them unless they are unwell, as it is so contagious. They told me to give her manuka honey and child cough syrup. But obviously if you are worried call the vet but make sure that they know you suspect it's kennel cough, so they can tell you where to wait etc.

If he’s not ill I would just keep him at home , ours likes baby tixylix ( a lot) and take him to bed .

Thanks for your replies. I've spoken to the vet. She's made me an appointment for Thursday as they're so busy these days she wanted to book a slot in case he gets worse but she doesn't think he'll need it. He's well in himself - a bit quiet but hungry and hovering in the kitchen as usual for his dinner. He's been for a few gentle walks away from all other dog's. He's still coughing and bringing up some white mucous when he does - apparently this is normal. It's not as bad as last night though so fingers crossed 🤞🏼 he will be ok.

If it is kennel cough than Baby Benelyn & manukau honey to soothe his throat. I once had so many down with it that the vet told me, after the fourth one, not to bring them in & gave me a big plastic bag full of pills “ just dose them as they start coughing”.
