Will my dog cope with the cold weather?

We're moving back to the UK in 4 weeks time and bringing our Golden Retriever. We live in the Middle East where summer temperatures are 45c and it is currently around 29c. He is well acclimatized to the heat here and copes really well with it.

This is probably a silly question, but do you think I should get him a dog jacket for the first few weeks while he gets used to the colder weather?

PS - I know he has a double-layered coat but he has obviously shedded for the warmer weather here.

He will be fine. He is built for this climate not the Middle East. I think he will be relieved to be honest.

Yes, he’ll need a coat for the cold and rain anyway. I like Equafleece coats.

I agree, he was a rescue and they are not a good breed for this climate. They are very popular here and are bought as puppies then put out on the streets when they get bigger and more energetic as they're too much hard work. I just wondered if he would find it cold initially as he doesn't have a thick coat to cope with the heat until it grows more.

Equafleece is good and might also help stop him bringing home quite so much mud!

Hi - we returned from Florida with our border collie cross, she definitely found the first winter cold. I got her a jumper (much to my family's amusement) and she'd bring it to me when we hadn't put it on... which was a pretty clear signal she appreciated the extra layer! Go for it.

I brought a dog back from Greece years ago and she was much happier in the UK climate (she had a double layer coat too).
