Aren't dachshund already small enough whats a mini one poor thing
SockDrawer · 05/11/2020 11:01

Wtf @Orkneys ? You could say that about all you breeds?

In fact, a miniature dachshund isn’t actual a toy breed. There’s a smaller ‘rabbit’ miniature dachshund that is usually classed as the toy of the breed.

SockDrawer · 05/11/2020 11:05

You could say that about all toy breeds.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2020 11:14

She's gorgeous.

I have a standard shorthaired dachshund. He's not that small, he weighs > 12kg and when he was younger could walk 20 km and climb Lake District hills no bother. Short legs, massive lungs. Dachshunds were originally bred for hunting, the small ones were for rabbits, the standards for badgers and also wild boar.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 05/11/2020 11:27

Awww cutie! How old is she?

VioletSunset · 05/11/2020 11:36

Can we not just have one thread without someone posting something negative these days?

What a gorgeous girl she is!!! Absolutely beautiful, and love her name too

Gin4thewin · 05/11/2020 11:36

Shes 10 weeks old😍 yes daschund have a standard and miniature size. Standards arent that small!

Shes been such a good girl, bit lost and not sure what to do but shes getting there

IHeartHounds · 05/11/2020 12:21

She's lovely. Frankie, love it!

Wolfiefan · 05/11/2020 12:23

Oh she’s so sweet. Good luck! They’re not a breed for the faint hearted. So full of character and can be stubborn as hell. Amazing little characters!

susandelgado · 05/11/2020 12:39

Congratulations! I have three miniature dachshunds and love them to bits! Smile

Gin4thewin · 05/11/2020 14:02

Im used to big stubborn bull type breeds so just in a smaller package. Shes got bored of following me around so took herself off to bed in her crate!

Orkneys · 05/11/2020 14:03

Not at all.. Dachshund are prove to broken backs so not the same as all toy breeds at all
Orkneys · 05/11/2020 14:04

Prone

SockDrawer · 05/11/2020 14:26

I’m going to assume you’re talking about IVDD @Orkneys ? In a study of all dachshund types a standard actually came out as more prone to this than miniatures.

Do you know anything about the breed or are you just jumping to negative conclusions?

Next time you see a dachshund why not ask it’s owner if it’s a standard or a mini. I think you’re probably seeing minis and assuming they’re standards and therefore think the OP has got herself an extra small dog.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2020 14:57

Dachshund are prove to broken backs

Slipped disks, not 'broken backs'. So far of the 3 our family has had, only one has had any back issues, and that wasn't till this year, aged 14. He's had successful surgery.

Yes, its something to be aware of - in retrospect we should have had stair gates to stop him racing up and down. But it's certainly not inevitable, and they're one of the breeds most likely to reach mid teens or later.

Ruddyfedup · 06/11/2020 10:20

1st night was a fluke, she screamed all night. Now asleep on my lap and wafts of puppy farts keep getting up my nose!

Stupidly cute. 😍😍😍

Wolfiefan · 06/11/2020 14:14

If she’s not happy on her own then you need to have her sleep near you for now.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/11/2020 14:26

Oh I'm so jealous of all those puppy snuggles and kisses.

spiderlight · 06/11/2020 15:02

Little face!!! Adorable!

Gin4thewin · 06/11/2020 15:08

I dont really want her on the bed in case she falls, shes so little i obviously dont want her seriously hurt and i dont have room for a dog crate in my bedroom, nore do i particularly want one in there. I gave her my heat bag earlier on and she liked that so ill get a proper dog one she can be safely left to keep over night. She has to get used to being left, i literally only leave for the school run till 5 and i dont want an adult dog that has separation anxiety because i never left her. Shes a lap pup thats to be sure but shell have to get used to it at night. Call me cruel, nasty, irresponsible, whatever. It doesnt mean shes not loved, because she is, very much so but this isnt my 1st rodeo either!

Wolfiefan · 06/11/2020 16:01

You won’t get a dog with separation anxiety because you don’t leave it as a puppy. You COULD get a dog with separation anxiety if you leave a little puppy to cry.
You sleep where pup does for a few nights? I can understand you don’t want a tiny pup on the bed or a crate in your room.
