Cracked paw pad

Bethanemethane · 02/11/2020 18:37

I noticed earlier that my 6 month old lab has a split/crack in one of her front paw pads. The other front one is dry and has a “line” across it. It looks clean and not infected and she is not licking it or limping. She’s her normal jolly self. Any advice? Is it ok to just keep an eye on it? Thanks

Lintbells do a paw balm for cracked paw pads. It's part of their silver range I.e. has silver in it. I'd be inclined to make a vet appt too though.

Keep it clean by swishing her paw in a bowl of water.
When dry put something on to moisturise the pad till it heals. Shea Butter is non toxic to dogs or there are several paw waxes you can buy.

Thank you for the advice Smile

I had a lab prone to this. She had to rest for a few days while it healed a bit. All this wet weather won’t help. Udder cream (which you can get from an equestrian shop) soothes it and moisturises the pad. There’s a company called Mushers that do paw wax. That used to be pretty good too.

Buy some mushers secret paw wax. Its on amazon it will help.

Ordered some Mushers paw wax and will keep a close eye on it. I’m in Wales where it’s been raining non-stop for weeks. Because she’s still young we tend to let her out to the garden regularly for a wee/play and I think she’s just constantly getting wet paws. Thanks again.
