How long after vaccinations did you take your puppy outside?

We have an (enormous!) 11 week old collie / lab cross who has just been for his second lot of vaccinations today; when we went two weeks ago, the vet said we could start taking him outside after his second set, but today the vet said we had to wait 2 more weeks.

I just wondered what everyone else did as we've confused ourselves reading conflicting advice in the puppy books we've bought (and am slightly stressing about how we are supposed to do all the socialisation / exposure work before 12 weeks if we can't take him outside until 13 weeks!)

Interested to hear everyone else's experiences Smile

We had the same actually. After the second set we were told to wait 2 weeks for a walk, then after 2 more weeks we had to get another set of jabs for some reason. At those ones we were told to wait another 2 weeks to take her out! But of course we'd already taken her out 2 weeks after the second set. She's fine and tbh I doubt we could have lasted any more time without walks so I don't really know what to tell you!

We had the second and third vaccinations at the same time at 12 weeks and took him out for a walk at 13 wks. The vet didn't advise so we decided to just wait a week.
Prior to that I took him on the school run and carried him from the carpark to the pavement near school to get him used to people and traffic. He loved this. Dh did similar at night.
Ours is a lab x collie but is on the small side.
There are prams you can use if he is too heavy but it may not be worth getting one for a few weeks unless you can sell it on.

My own pup went out a week after his second lot of injections... to be honest we needed something to walk off his energy and stave off the boredom!

Im not a vet or even medically qualified but i thought after a week the stuff should be in his system and he would be ok...

we've just taken our pup outside for his first walk around the block! 1 week and 1 day after his jabs

Mine was split into three because I begged my vet to split them so I could walk my puppy earlier.

The second was the second puppy one that cover parvo etc. This was given at 10 weeks and I was allowed to walk him on pavements one week after.

The third was the lepto one at 12 weeks and I had to wait a further 2 weeks before I was able to walk him in wet boggy areas.

Vet advised us to wait a week after vaccinations but we are not in a high risk area.

We were told ideally to wait another week after 2nd I section but that really should be protected after 3 days.

I did it when the vet said.... though I actually took him out lots, just carried him, he was the only dog I’ve had that young, I know he was about 14kg before I could put him down, lol

On vet advice, ten days after second set at 10 weeks. Massive relief all round as the puppy was losing the plot indoors.
