KC Register

Hi
I have bred from my mini dachshund bitch. She is not KC reg. The sire is. I wanted to find out if I can register the litter with the KC in some capacity but despite their website saying there are a number of options to register puppies, including cross breeds, I can’t see how to do it. Can’t get through on the phone. Email reply says it will take 10 days to respond. Puppies ready for new homes in 2 weeks. Does anyone have the answer? Would be appreciated.

Crossbreeds can be put in the activities register, so they can compete in registered Agility, Canicross, Companion dog shows, Scruffts, Flyball, Heelwork to music, Obedience, Rally and Working trials

Puppies from an unregistered dam cannot be put on the breed register. Why is she not registered? Are the puppies from a pedigree line even though not registered?

Why would you? What benefit would it have? Why wasn’t she KC reg?
Why on earth didn’t you look into this before breeding? Like when you did the necessary health tests?

iVampire · 21/10/2020 21:22

Pretty sure that is the owner who puts their dog on the activity register (so they can access the activities which interest them) not the breeder

CovidNightmare · 21/10/2020 21:25

Why do you want to register them with KC?

MrsJunglelow · 21/10/2020 22:02

I’m not being funny, but surely the time to check this was before the mating..?

If one parent is not KC registered then the puppies can’t be.

You could in theory register them on the KC activity register but I don’t see the point given that the fragility of their backs mean agility/fly ball would be dangerous and they aren’t known for competitive obedience and the like.

There would be literally no benefit whatsoever to registering them on activity

If your dog isn't KC registered then the puppies can't be. That's all.

Thanks for your replies. The KC website led me to believe you could register in some way even if both parents were not registered. My girl is a family pet and the puppies all have lovely homes lined up. I was just curious when I saw the KC website.

Is your dog dapple?

Evilwasps · 22/10/2020 19:41

Does it matter? We've had a few dogs, all pure bred, but only one was KC registered. It didn't make one bit of difference to us, the breeder just happened to be close by, the breeders registered all their litters as they showed their dogs. The only reasons I can see to register them is if you want to make more money when selling the pups or if prospective buyers want to show their dog. It sounds like you have buyers lined up so I don't think you should bother with registering the pups

Handsnotwands · 22/10/2020 20:08

It makes a difference to how much you can charge eh op?

vanillandhoney · 22/10/2020 21:09

There's nothing you can do. The dam isn't registered so the pups cam't be.

Wolfiefan · 22/10/2020 22:14

Yep. It’s about money. Sad
