First sign that your girl was coming into season?

Just that really - what little clues suggested to you the season was coming? We took on a unspayed 2-year old recently and she is due soon. My previous dogs had all been males so this is new to me.

(And, for the benefit of any posters who may get snarky about the fact we have an unspayed dog, we do plan on getting her spayed once her season is finished. But felt it would be kinder to give her a proper settling in period in our house before hoiking her off to the vet for major surgery! So no judgement please.)

I literally don't know, only that a few days before our other dog would constantly stay close by her and lick her head and ears for like an hour at a time Confused

Paranoidmarvin · 13/10/2020 14:48

She went really quiet about four weeks before. She hid away. Strangely while she was in season there was no blood and no other symptoms. We didn’t even know.

GiraffeNecked · 13/10/2020 15:03

She's only had one - she got grumpy, spooked by other dogs, ids and people - she's normally a friend of everyone.

A lot of licking of her bits. A bit of spotting. Tired, off her food.

But there was a real change in character.

Other dogs' reaction was also a tell - that's how we knew when a little jack russell at Puppy Class suddenly got a gleam in his eye and a spring in his step!

SlothMama · 13/10/2020 16:27

Her recall would disappear completely, and she would leg it across a field to see another dog. Also she would wee a lot more on walks a few weeks before.

MrsTumbletap · 13/10/2020 18:21

Her nipples got bigger and her vulva swelled up to about three times the size, you couldn't miss it.

StillMedusa · 13/10/2020 21:44

Beforehand... suddenly hungry (usually picky) and extra loving.
During.. very tired.. walked like she was 90 (til fertile then if she saw a male... rocket speed)
First season ok in herself, second season, anxious, became dog reactive, uber emotional..not herself at all.
Lots and lots of cleaning herself, and her vulva swelled a lot. Only drips of blood if she'd been sleeping and stood up.

Getting spayed shortly!

Oh yes the baboon bottom. Unmistakable. And HUGE nipples.

MinnieJackson · 14/10/2020 07:47
