Distraught over my dog losing an eye.

My heart is broken, My 7yo Shihtzu/Bischon mix just had to have her R eye removed. Everything happened so fast. Only 3 days from taking her to the Emergency Vet to having her eye removed. They said she had a large Corneal Ulcer which perforated. I'm devastated, I'm angry. We don't even know what really happened. Did she scratch or poke her eye which became infected then ulcer developed. Just don't know. I question if I should of gotten a second opinion before having the eye removed. The Dr. was an Ophthalmologist. I guess I am really just looking to hear from other people that have gone through this and tell me everything will be ok and I will quit hurting like this.

Awww, sorry for you and Ddog. But on the plus side canines are remarkably resilient to adapting. I've known a couple of dogs who've had very little lasting impact from losing a limb (weight needs to be kept to an optimum though). My Ddog went completely deaf 3yrs before passing away, and also had pretty bad cataracts in both eyes towards the end. Fortunately it didn't impact on him following his sense of smell to get around (no issues sniffing out food!). DS had a bulldog that was born blind in one eye and it didn't stop him from doing any standard dog antics either. The only difference was he wasn't 100% happy on walks if an unknown dog unexpectedly approached him on his blind side, but we were aware of that incase it happened.

So sorry for you and your dog. You're probably in something of a shock at the moment. If it helps to reassure, a friend of mine has a dog who had to have an eye removed recently and he has adapted very well and is the same as he ever was.
