Do dogs sense pregnancy?

Not me.. way too old Grin but my DD2 who lives with us (and her fiance) is nearly 3 months pregnant and our dog has been a bit odd since.. well pretty much since she missed her period!

Dog came into season in august and had a personality change (2nd season and will be spayed in a few months time) She was clingy and then became reactive and hated all dogs, cried all the time. We assumed it was just her hormones and while they have settled she is not the dog she was before, she cries so much.. happy sobs when we come home (even if we are just putting the bins out!)..just uber emotional!
DD2 has had mega sobs from the dog when she gets in from work, and unusually for our dog, she has been sleeping as close to DD2 as she can...usually she sleeps as near to me as possible. Today I came in from work and doggo was stretched out (large dog) literally spooning DD2 who was dozing, exhausted after a run of nights (nurse).

We feel like she knows DD2 is different and wants to be near her as much as possible.

Or are we just imaging things?! We are happy and excited for this baby (planned and they have just bought a house just up the road ) but I really do think our dog KNOWS!

I wouldn't be surprised, male dogs can certainly detect (and respondHmmGrin) to women's hormones.

One of ours did and then he really worried us when one night he refused to leave my side. Every thing was fine. He is a very sensitive dog.

I believe so - perhaps reacting to change in pheromones/odour?

Our family dog whenever I went home to visit while pregnant was very protective and soppy with me, same with sis when she was pregnant, inc her first pregnancy the dog seemed to know before she did! Before she knew she was pregnant she was playfighting/mucking about with mum and dog "warmed" mum off and she was never aggro with mum ever aside from that one time.

My cats did, all 3 times. And being typical contrary cats they jeo out of the way of the first two but the more boisterous baby they came near. Maybe they knew he was my last!!

Their sense of smell is like 40 times stronger than ours - if they can smell cancer, people buried under rubble and apparently now corona virus, I’m pretty sure they know when people are pregnant tbh.

Yeah I believe so.
Just from my experience, my parents had a dog who would bark all the time at everyone he didnt know and wouldnt let any stranger enter the house without frightening them first.
When my second ds was born and we took him to my parents house for the first time, the dog didnt flinch. He carried on as normal as if he was expecting us to walk in with a new baby.

We realised we were expecting when the dog wouldn't stop following me around and lying on me whenever I sat down. He was much faster than a missed period or pregnancy test!

My dog did, he didn't leave my side, especially at night to begin with. The cat knows as well but she doesn't give a shit about trampling all over the growing kitten but she does like to keep her warm by putting her bum on bump?!
