Detangling

Can you use human detangling spray on dogs?

Ones sold for dogs are way more expensive!

Yes, I know I shouldn’t have let it get a bit matted. But now it is, I want to fix it as gently as possible. Double coat, if that makes any difference

I find loads of (human) conditioner works much better.

If the coat is matted then you’re better off going to groomers. Matting on double coated and wool coated dogs can be hidden near the skin and be very painful. Even if it’s not near the skin the pulling can still be very painful.

Thank you!

Yes, she probably will end up at the groomers.

Most of her coat is in good order (we hand strip and on most of her body she doesn’t mind) but there are some places where she is more sensitive, and I was just seeing if there might be anything to try to make it nicer for her when we tackle it. If no break through with human hair products then we’ll give in and have a professional do it

A friend with a dog that gets tangled a lot recommends a product called Cowboy Magic, designed for horses but apparently great for their dog. (The results look good imo too.)

I was going to say Cowboy Magic as well. We have a very woolly-coated. very ticklish cocker who hates being groomed and it's been a lifesaver for us when we've missed a bit and it's tangled.

I’ve now booked her in to the groomer, but the earliest slot is in a fortnight

So I’ll try the Cowboy (it can be one of her birthday presents!) and see if I can get her into a bit better state
