A lidded tray?

donkeyridesinsummer · 19/09/2020 17:46

Thanks - we had a kidder tray but had to take lid off as our old cat can no longer get in.

Stairgate between dog and litter tray! We have one with a cat flap in it.

I have our litter tray in a cupbord like the one in the image, you can add a flap like in the image or just leave a cat sized hole.

we have our cat food i the utility room, and when cat was ill, the litter tray went in there too.
We have a door with glass panels between kitchen and utility, and when we got dog, we removed one of the panels, which are abot the size of a cat flap, so the cat can access the utility room and dog can't.

I think that separating the dog from cat food and little is only fair on the cat actually.

Can you put it in the garage/downstairs loo/spare bedroom/bathroom/ and then have stairgate/catflap/hole for cat to enter?

Or just simpler, stairgate on kitchen door and keep dog out?

dementedpixie · 19/09/2020 17:52

You can take the flap off and leave the lid on

this is genius!
QueenOfToast · 19/09/2020 17:53

@SimonJT That is genius. I don't have a cat at the moment, but when we adopt again I will definitely be doing this.

Sorry OP, I have no advice about dog situation.

Yankathebear · 19/09/2020 17:53

@SimonJT that’s amazing!

We have a stair gate.

Gigglr · 19/09/2020 17:59

We have a litter tray cupboard but it's just a narrow sideboard (£20 off Facebook) that DH drilled a hole in to fit the cat flap but you could just leave a hole.

donkeyridesinsummer · 19/09/2020 17:59

Wow amazing ideas, thanks!! Our cat is very old and struggles with a flap so I think I will try putting lid back on but taking the flap off. Brilliant! I never would have thought of putting the litter tray in a cupboard!

You can get purpose built litter tray cupboards, but I just bought one I liked and used a jigsaw to cut a hole as the ready made ones wouldn’t go with my furniture.

tabulahrasa · 19/09/2020 20:43

I have lidded ones, with the flap off... but facing the wall, cat can get in, dog can’t get in easily

It means you notice them doing it basically, rather than catching them halfway through

Pelleas · 19/09/2020 20:49

I used a stair gate.

You can train your cats to jump over it - put a chair either side to begin with and coax them over with a treat to show them it's not an impassable barrier. They'll use the chairs at first but in a few days they'll be leaping over it without a second thought.

MsMarvellous · 20/09/2020 17:26

Our litter tray is in a kitchen cupboard with a cat flap on the door 😂

Sitdowncupoftea · 21/09/2020 00:04

I have my cat litter tray upstairs. I have it in one of my spare rooms.

Wincarnis · 21/09/2020 03:44

You can buy “stool deterrent” treats that make cat poo undesirable for dogs, however the problem is getting the cat to eat the treats....

chromis · 21/09/2020 05:18

I used to put ours in the bath.

(Had separate shower cubicle and no young kids so only used bath now and then)
