Puppy humping

coffeewithmilk · 18/09/2020 13:56

I have a 10 week old puppy and only recently he has started humping me anytime I sit down on the floor with him.
I try to direct his attention and get a you to distract him and say 'no'
I didn't think this happened so early on, I mean he's only 10 weeks old!

What else can I do? And does anyone know why he is doing this?

He doesn't do it to my husband, only me

Thank you

Humping isn't always sexual. It can also be triggered by play and (over) excitement.

At this age I'd not make a deal of it. Ignore and distract with something else. Chances are he'll grow out of it again.

Humping isn’t a sexual behaviour. Over excitement?
No doesn’t mean anything to him. Focus on what you do want him to do.
Have a look at dog training advice and support on FB.

Like PP said, it's not sexual - it's excitement. I walk an 8yo female cocker who still humps when she's excited Grin

Just redirect him towards something else - ask for a sit or something that's totally incompatible to humping. Or, if he's getting too wound out, consider a time out in his crate. Often, manic behaviour in puppies means they need a nap!

Thank you all
I meant to say 'I get him a toy'

I suppose he does get very excited because I play with him a lot!

I'll take it as a good sign that he is more excited playing with me than my husband 😂

Thanks!!
