Dog peeing on carpets.

Maggie is 19 months old and apart from this issue is housetrained. She never goes in our house.

Our flat is mainly laminate or Lino except bedrooms which are carpets. Maggie is not allowed in there.

We had a rug in the living room but had to get rid as she kept pissing on it.

We’re on holiday at the moment. We’re in self catering which is tiled floor but we had to roll up a rug as she pissed on it. We’re in a hotel which is dog friendly but carpeted and I had to tosh her out as she tried to piss in the hall. She seems to mistake carpets for grass?!

It’s difficult to train her at home because as mentioned when there’s no carpet there’s no issues, it’s just the rare occasion she comes across carpets!

I think if your dog is otherwise fit and well then she seems to be most likely marking her territory and rugs/carpets are often their chosen choice of places to eliminate.
I would say take her outside more frequently for a wee so if she does choose to try and mark her territory inside then it would be a lesser amount and definitely keep the rug rolled up and out of her way.
Every time I bought a new rug or mat my dog did this. Now she’s older she isn’t bothered.

It could be that another dog has weed on it so could smell of wee, so she assumes it's where she should go too. Buy an enzyme spray which Pets At Home sell and spray the rug with it. Every time she has an accident clean it up with the spray.

@SlothMama I could do with that, just to take on holiday.....she doesn't do it at home.

@MellowMelly makes sense...we're in Ireland where my husband is from. We went to see his cousin, who also has a dog. The second sheccwas in, she peed on the carpet Hmm I think in protest at her dog.
The hotel we're in atm is dog friendly, I think she's definitely marking her space as there are loads of other dogs here

@Spidey66 Definitely sounds like she’s ‘claiming’ her space. At least it’s not as bad as what my dog was like when she was younger. She ‘claimed’ duvets too Hmm
