Yorkie mix with bichon, any experience?

A lady we know very well will have yorkie/bichon pups available in the next couple of months. She lives near us & treats her dogs & pups like little babies. Has anyone any experience of this cross? My dc are dying for a puppy. The father is a dark black & tan purebred yorkie & the mother a white bichon.
Another lady in our town has cavachons due soon, need to make a decision!

“It’s well known that toy breed puppies should ideally stay with their mums to 12 weeks so I’m a bit shocked that an alleged vet is seemingly unaware of this.”

To be fair, I’ve never seen any reason given for it other than size - and to me, they don’t look exactly sturdy at 12 weeks either....

Tbh, I’ve always assumed it’s one of the reasons you breeds have a bad reputation behaviourally.

Toy was what autocorrected to you, in case that wasn’t obvious.

She's so lovely & it was very kind of her to say the dc could call anytime they're passing. DH is against the idea though in case they get attached to one pup in particular & it may be going to a different home! He thinks we should wait until collection time or else just for me to go & visit the pups without dc & be impartial ...

@Borderstotheleftofme

OP, I think your breeder sounds fantastic, I wouldn’t buy a toy breed puppy under 12 weeks and hope you update with pictures.

Just wondered if you could answer my questions and point me to your evidence please @Borderstotheleftofme since you were so quick to criticise my comments and my professionalism, I'm assuming you have some basis for your shock at my comments?

They aren't really any more sturdy at 12 weeks. We certainly see plenty of puppies in the 12-24 week bracket with accidental fractures. It's one of those breeder mythology things with no factual evidence that I'm aware of. Though I'm happy to stand corrected - I don't want to 'shock' anymore posters with my ignorance as an 'alleged' vet Grin

We definitely see many more behavioural issues through ineffective/improper socialisation which is often more important in many toy breeds (daschunds and chihuahuas more predisposed to aggression, many toy breeds develop early neophobia, many fear responses inadvertently reinforced through owner behaviour of lifting small dogs...)

Veterinari, can I just ask out of interest what does our breeder stand to gain from keeping our puppy four weeks longer? We are paying her nothing extra, our puppy is 300 in total.
Would it not be easier for her to hand our puppy over at 8 or 10 weeks?
We know & trust her that's why we haven't questioned her but why would she not hand our pup over earlier? I can't think of how it can be adventageous to the breeder to keep it four weeks longer with food costs & time constraints. I'd imagine there will be at least 4 or 5 pups in the litter (due yesterday but no sign yet) so that is a significant cost to her.

I have a 2 year old bichon. He's smart, playful, happy to exercise (except in the rain) & very easy to train.

On the flip side, I knew the very regular hair grooming was a cost a bichon brings, however I wasn't prepared for his barkiness! Which I'm working on. He also is very much a pack animal, liking his pack around him and when out, gets distressed when I leave him with someone briefly, (ie to pop the loo, go to the bar, dive into the shop). However when I leave him at home, he settles down quickly and sleeps for hours (I never leave him longer than 4 hrs).
Of course I adore him to bits.

Supergirl he's gorgeous & sounds full of personality. Yes we've factored in the grooming costs & I've ordered a kit from amazon this morning so I can trim the hair from it eyes & bum. We have a long list of stuff to be purchasing over the next 12 weeks, I'm doing it gradually 😅

He's simply packed with personality, I wouldn't have him any other way. Sounds like you're doing all the right things, in which case, good luck and enjoy!

Aw thanks so much, I think I'm as excited as the dc. I'll really enjoy the pups company while they're in school.

Yorkers are quite anxious at being left alone and very yappy. The yapping drove us all mad, but she was a super affectionate dog.

Yes, when I was young I had the most adorable yorkie/Cairn cross it yapped at everything & was just the grumpiest little thing. But so loyal & loved her inner circle. Was devestated when she died aged 15.
I do love the terrier attitude & confidence. The cavachon probably would have been the easier of the two (going by friends experiences) but DH & I love terriers, he had terriers growing up too.
I am a sáhm & DH works away from home alot so the pup won't be alone at all or if it is it will be a matter of minutes. Dcs school is beside us so pup will be doing the school runs too when it's ready for the outside world😊
