Abdominal tumour

Hi, I’m hoping someone can offer some advice or share their experience with me. I’ll try to keep it brief.
On Sunday I felt a large (filled my hand) hard lump in my 10.5 year old dogs abdomen. I couldn’t get a vet appointment until Tuesday am, by which time the lump was even larger. The vet has prescribed 1/2 a prednidale steroid daily and antihistamine twice daily for 10 days hoping that will shrink the tumour before surgery. So, we’re on day three of the medication and so far there’s no improvement. I don’t think she’s in pain but she’s certainly uncomfortable and finds it hard to sit or lie comfortably for very long. I’m unsure whether to carry on with the medication or just go straight for surgery. The vet said that if the steroids are going to shrink the tumour they’ll work quickly, but I don’t know what quickly is-should they be having an effect by now, or is this too soon? My fear is that I’m leaving my dog unhappy and trying a medication that isn’t doing anything, and whatever happens she’ll need surgery anyway.
I’m planning on contacting my vet to see what she says but if anyone has been in this situation or if there are any vets here I would really appreciate some advice.
