Mysterious root…

Hi there, I live on the South coast, my 15 month old terrier mongrel loves to dig up and eat the roots of a wild plant that grows on the hill near my house. I alwasy assumed it was just the dirt she was eating but a fellow dog walker today told me it was the root of a particular wildflower that dogs love. His dog does it and it sends her a bit loopy with zoomies.He couldnt remember the name of it though! I've tried various google searches but cant work out what is so attractive to her!
Can anyone help me get to the 'root' of the problem please?

Watch out for poisonous parsnips that are found on the coast. They can kill dogs.

I’ve no idea what the root is but I agree with the pp that there are lots of very poisonous bulbs / roots . We nearly lost our dog as a puppy when he dug up and chewed a daffodil bulb , fortunately he hadn’t been at it very long . Mine will eat / chew anything with absolutely no regard for what’s poisonous , take him in a very green plants area and he literally goes along taking a bite of everything it’s a nightmare .

My current dog and last late dog both dug up and ate some sort of root or fungus they found. The last time I got a quick look before it was devoured and it was brown and sort of spongey looking.

They both found whatever it is at shallow depth, in the verge of a quiet country lane.

My first thought was a truffle of some kind but apparently truffles aren't that attractive to dogs whereas this obviously is!

I've not been able to find out what it is, either.
