Reasonable for a Cavalier KCS puppy?

Hi All,
I've been researching getting a Cavalier KCS puppy and most breeders seem to be quoting between £3,000- 3,500. I've not had a dog since childhood, and my partner bought his a long time ago so we don't have much up to date experience. Is this about the going rate for a puppy? Obviously didn't expect it'd cost hundreds but 3.5k seems a lot.

We got our Cav in late 2017 and paid about £1300 for him. He was the most expensive puppy we saw advertised at the time but his breeder was the only one we found that actually had all the appropriate health tests done.

3k is ridiculous and my advice would be to wait a year maybe and use that time to find a good breeder. Like previous posters have said, Cavs have a lot of health issues but they really are lovely family dogs. Its worth doing the research and finding a great bloodline.

When we were looking it was frightening how many 'breeders' we contacted who clearly didn't give a damn about their dogs. One person we asked what colour and sex pups were in the litter... their response was 'all'... its was so obviously a puppy farm Sad

Thanks for the advice - I am going to wait 6 months and in the meantime do some research. But all of these dog pics are gorgeous!

Don't rule out rescue dogs, Cav or other breeds. Remember those with poor experiences tend to shout a lot louder than all the people with thousands of happily, and easily, rehomed dogs. Good rescues WILL rehome to those who work, as long as the new owner has made provisions and the dog in question can cope with that set up.

Demand for rescue dogs is as high as puppies at the moment though so even that can be a lottery as the "easy" dogs may get hundreds of applications.
