Settling rescue greyhound

Hi There need some advice
We got him Monday. He’s settled well and is a very happy boy. I’ve been kipping down With him in the kitchen as he won’t have been alone at night. Now wanting to move to the next stage of getting him to settle in his basket and being on his own at night. How can we reassure him or do we go cold turkey?

Our boy found the radio helpful, along with soft toys. In my experience, greys are really sensitive hounds, so the most important thing is to give them time to find their feet. Patience goes a long way.

Within three months of getting our boy, he was joined by a sister , and they sleep like a pair of skinny logs (just sayin' )

Aw thanks. He actually sailed through his first night on his own as I think he’d accustomed himself to his surroundings for the previous 4 nights. A couple of whines first off. I went back to check on him and gave him a treat in his basket. Seem to settle after that.

I love these dogs! We rescued our first in January and she is such a sweetheart. (No doubt I will adopt more!) Such an overlooked breed.

Lots of time and TLC. Nothing to worry about right now but watch his body temp during autumn/winter if the heating is going off overnight. Greys have such low body fat that they don't deal with extremes of temperature very well, and if it's cold he'll need help in staying warm. If he's a still sleeper and doesn't move around a lot, then you could tuck him under a blanket at night. If he wriggles when he sleeps then a jumper or some PJs would be a good idea. My boy stays still so he goes under a blanket. My girl is a wriggler so she wears a jumper!
