Burst anal glad abscess, aftercare help needed

We spotted the dog had a swollen bum area yesterday, took her to the vet who diagnosed an anal gland abscess. He said it should pop soon, and this morning it has. After cleaning her up I can see the point where it popped. She’s on antibiotics and pain killers but is unsurprisingly miserable and clearly uncomfortable. Other than keeping her bum area clean does anyone have any other aftercare tips to help her heal or feel a bit more comfortable? TIA

Bumping. Plus I know there’s a typo in the heading.

Oh bless her it must be horrible.

I think keeping it clean and making sure she can not lick it is vital. So a buster collar may be needed.

If she is still very uncomfortable a call to the vet may reassure you or to see if she needs stronger painkillers. My limited experience is that it takes a few days to a week to heal.

Usually the dogs seem to feel a bit better once they have burst. Do make sure as much as you can you can clear up the smell as that can upset some dogs.

Is she eating ok can she be sidetracked by some sniffy games or scatter feeding?

She’s eating okay, she ate her breakfast but didn’t lick the plate clean, which I think is a first as she’s very food obsessed. She also had a little bit of ham as a treat for letting us clean her up. She’s too short in the body to actually be able to lick her bottom so I don’t think she needs a collar, we’re pretty sure she burst it by scooching on the patio rather than licking or worrying at it. She’s lying on the sofa looking sad now poor thing Sad .

My spaniels burst, she is a Cav so has long hair anyway covering that area. Once it had burst and after a visit to the vets she was absolutely fine. We just kept it really clean and it healed quickly.

My dog had this, antibiotics and i bathed the area with cooled boiled water. Just keep an eye on it, my dog healed fairly quickly
