Leaving 10 week old puppy with relative

Our puppy will be 10 weeks old and I wondered what people’s thoughts are on leaving him with a relative for 24 hours. He would be with our children overnight at the relatives house. We would take his crate. Will he be traumatised?

It would be significantly better to have the relative take care of the puppy at your home

How does the relative feel about having an in toilet trained chewy pup in their house?
I wouldn’t leave mine so soon after bringing it home but it depends on the pup whether it would be upset or not.

Will your relative be happy to have to get up multiple times in the night to let your puppy out? If not, are they happy to have to clean up poo and wee from the crate the next morning, and probably wash the puppy too?

Loubylou79 · 15/07/2020 19:18

He gets let out once in the night from his crate to wee and hasn’t soiled his crate in the 2 and a half weeks we have had him. Not all puppies are the same so think we have been pretty lucky. I wouldn’t leave him with anyone if he was still having multiple accidents

But he might if he isn’t at home.

Loubylou79 · 15/07/2020 19:29

Yes fair point. I think in hindsight he’s too young to leave. I will go on my own and leave my partner with him so he is ok

He may well cope fine. Every pup is different. Mine wouldn’t. But then pup one was a clingy mummy’s baby. And pup two was a boisterous little bugger who would likely have destroyed the house! Grin
