Working cocker 10months 1 week having season

So she’s 10kg and relatively small but now having her first season. Lead walks around the houses locally and garden playing- but what else can I do with her? Any tips gratefully received. And when is it day one - is that first day of blood spots? And is the 28 day thing a strict 28 days as we go on holiday at 24 days? Our other working cocker is a nearly 13 yr old neutered male.

This is quite a normal age to have a first season in a working cocker.

Day 1 is not necessarily the first day of bleeding. You may see a discharge, the dog licking, swollen vulva then soon after bleeding.

Seasons can last 21-28 days.

Thanks Vper Swollen and attracting male dogs since last Wednesday. Would we count then as day 1 although actual blood was Monday?

I would start counting from Wednesday (hopefully you will all be ok for you holiday - first covid may mess it up and then a dog in season! )

Mine started licking herself a good week before we saw anything..she also weed a lot more than usual. I 'dated' it from the first drop of blood to be on the safe side but she was definitely back to normal 3 weeks later.
Now waiting for her second season..(last was New year) and wishing she'd hurry up as we are due to go camping in August! (plus then I can book her for her spay in 3 months)

viper and still thank you both, that’s reassuring. She’s a bit dazed I think. However, am dreading next week when she gets feisty and wants to escape for sex. We’ve nicknamed her Villanelle because she’s already caught a rabbit and a vole. If she wants sex she’ll graft until she gets it . She’s determined.

However, I’m much more hopeful about taking her away (Northumberland ). It’s just because the carpets where we are headed are cream. Her crate is travelling now.

My working cocker’s season lasted 28 days from first drip. She actually dripped on all through it but her daycare said that’s quite unusual.
Worth bearing in mind that she’ll be hormonal for a good while. I read that even if not pregnant they get the hormones as though they are for the 9 weeks they would be.
Ours was very nervy, barky and clingy for a while.
Just be patient and calm with her for a good while.

Some kennels will take a bitch in season - ours does, the owner used to breed dogs and she is completely unfazed by anything.

My dog seasons for about 18 days. We go to quiet places at quiet times and if I can see all around and there's no one, I'll let her off with a longline trailing (she has decent recall though).

Oh, no , hormonal for nine weeks. Agh...
Today she escaped the main fenced garden by climbing a tree and walking on top of hedge through to the front...
She also shredded a flower pot and ate the plant.
Tomorrow going to tire her brain with sniffing activities

The levels of hormonal behaviour differ from dog to dog. Mine gets a bit needy in the week before her season, but that's about it. For various reasons she didn't get any training during her season but I took her out within days of it ending and she was keen and 100% on it.
