Advice please regarding ear drops

So my min pin cross chi ,has a sore ear ,vet has given me tablets to reduce swelling ,ear drops to clean ears ,and ear drops to stop it being sore .
I can get the drops in ,I’m supposed to drop in quite a bit and massage it down ..he won’t let me near him
Any ideas ,short of going back to the vets twice a day and paying them to do it ,I don’t know what else I can do

Anyone?

I'm a vet. I usually choose Easotic for tricky dogs like yours because it's once a day and get the client to bring them in each day. Our practice doesn't charge much for that.

This may not help, but I keep the drops in my bra so they are blood heat going in. Play gently with his ears on and off all day, offering treats. Sneak the warm drops in.

I have two dogs. They both get dirty ears. One is a Pug and she lets me put the ear cleaner in. No problem. I squirt and massage and she is fine.
The other dog however is a Chihuahua. He hates it. He tries to bite me, but I persevere and get the stuff in by hook or by crook. It takes a bit of wrestling and I have to tell him off, and the liquid tends to get spilt, but the only other alternative is to get the vet to do it so it's a no brainer.
I do feel a bit mean especially since he is a good dog and it's the only time I ever have to be cross, but I am the boss here :)

Sometimes it’s worth waiting a few days for the anti-inflammatory tablets to kick in. These will make it more comfortable for him to tolerate ear cleaning.
Failing that, there’s an ear treatment called Osurnia which is applied twice at the vets at a 1 week interval and has a good success rate.

I think I got some in this morning,but I’m worried he will bite me ,not that he ever has ,but he’s clearly hating the drops

Can you distract him with a delicious snack?

Forget the drops for a day or two and simply reward him for sitting quietly and letting you touch/lift his ears.

Google chirag patel the bucket game for YouTube videos that are really helpful with this kind of training. It's worth putting the effort in as war problems often need longterm management.

Ideally feet touching and ear touching should be part of every puppy socialisation experience.

He’s a rescue dog ,got him at 18 months old .the old owners left him home all day with cats and never walked him ..usually he’s fine ,but he’s just really not liking the drops

My boy was the same. He tolerates it now in a 'I've done everything I can to get away, why does she still do this?!' kind of misery.

I'm pretty sure it's actually remembered discomfort rather than actual. I'm sure he wouldn't feel it, if he'd stop wriggling!

But make sure they are warm.

I would second maybe waiting a few days for the infection to go down a bit if you can. Mine always used to tolerate her ears being cleaned ok, but since having an ear infection (when I assume it really hurt when I put drops in) she now really hates it, I think she now anticipates every time I go near her ears I'm going to hurt her bless her
