Rescue dog - parvovirus

We are considering adopting a rescue puppy who has recovered from parvovirus- is this a bad idea ? Are there long term health issues with parvovirus survivors ?

I think I would want to know what that would exclude from an pet insurance point of view. Maybe phone someone like petplan and ask what would be excluded given the dogs health history.

I know two or three Parvo survivors (rescue dogs) and they've all gone on to live normal lives. Can't speak for the individual pup in this case but there haven't been any implications to their long-term health or the ability to insure them. Some insurance underwriters are more generous than others though so you may need to shop around.

Just beware the 'second puppyhood' depending on how old the pup is! The quiet little poppet in recovery can start to make up for lost time once they're fully better and settled.

Like PP have said, my only concern would be insurance not paying out for future stomach problems.

But otherwise it wouldn't bother me.
