Corn on greyhound's foot

Was wondering if anyone has had any success with non surgical methods. My vet saw her today (husband took her) and is ringing on Thursday to see if we want surgical excision and to explain pros and cons.

Hopefully this link will work... we thought our racer had a corn (he doesn’t) and I found this which might be helpful for you.

Looking at all her pads on different feet, they nearly seem to have possible corns also the vet prescribed Loxicom and she has a dose yesterday and is walking much better today. All the info online seems to say Loxicom won't improve the pain from corns!

Have a look at the FB Group Flexor Tenotomy - Greyhounds with corns. I don’t know anyone personally who has had this done but there seems to be some success.

Also the FB Group Greyhounds with corns - lots of advice there with various degrees of success with various methods. Some work for some not for others - sadly there doesn’t appear to be a standard “cure”or prevention

Having said that I believe that regular physio/ chiropractic treatment to help keep the gait / walking straight And not lopsided (especially in ex racers) can also help with prevention but won’t help much with cure sadly.

Thanks, have looked at the Facebook group and may try some of the home treatments before surgery as a final resort.

Our ex racer greyhound has a corn, I spoke to a friend who has kept sighthounds all her life. She told me that if the vet removes the corn it will inevitably return and it's a long painful recovery from the surgery.

We have purchased a nail grinder to see if keeping his claws shorter will allow him to spread his weight more evenly across his paws.
